Yes. If you look at the breakdown, they're hoping to sell 2,999,995 UMDs and 5 downloads. I think the latter is more doable than the former. |
Can you offer insight on the Japanese market oh great expert?

Sure. The Japanese hate the PSP Go.
(Okay, that was hardly a testament to my expertise. Everyone hates the PSP Go.)
Only if download numbers are high, by that I mean at least 30% of the UMD's numbers.

Option A is the correct choice.
It'll probably do around 2m, like Crisis Core and Dissidia.
I'm surprised he said Japan's already meeting expectations though. That was the only market where Peace Walker even stood a chance of doing really well, and it's still failed to cross that million mark (just like everything on PSP than isn't Monster Hunter).

How do you know it's under the million mark? As many a banned Playstation fan can tell you, VGChartz is notorious for undertracking Metal Gear Solid.

Metal Gear has had a VERY stable sales figure in Japan this generation: aside from the Acid games, they've all sold in about the same neighborhood.

I know you're trying to be funny but the latest Famitsu numbers show MGS4 at 706461 and MGS4 The Best at 140571 while VGC has MGS4 total at 792007. Yes, different trackers different numbers, Degenki, MC and Famitsu sometimes have a high discrepancies as well, but people that say that are not just saying it on baseless assumptions.
OT I think it won't even reach 2 million given the 1st week EU sales. Even if download numbers are high, it won't make it.
The game will likely inch close to a million in Japan although no word on how the downloads are doing I would wager probably around 30000 in Japan and another 2000 elsewhere. If others doesn't pick up it will struggle to reach 2 million under 40k first week is not okay. Hopefully it will be around 100k again in US this week.
