Forums - Sales Discussion - Is It Possible For GT5 To OutSell Halo Reach Lifetime?...I Think So!

While I expect Reach to become the biggest 360 game ever as this will be its peak title, should probably easily pass H3 and MW2.

I expect GT to end up at # 3 possibly # 2 on the Lifetime PS3 list. GT peaked about 10 years ago.  Without significant bundling (which is possible) lifetime 6-7 WW tops. It would take years to pass MW2 and GTA IV on the PS3 all time list.

This is Simple.

GT5 wont even sell half of what Reach is going to.

Enough said.

How many do you think each will sell?

lmao what do you think reach is ganna do? I'm sure you expect it to outsell HALO 3.. so maybe you expect 14M out of halo reach which MWF2 a much bigger game didn't do but w.e I'm sure thats your expecation..

with that said GT5 will more than likely sell more than 7 MILLION..

so instead of saying "GT5 WILL SELL HALF OF HALO REACH PERIOD" and saying "ENOUGH SAID" like your word is god.. back up what you say.

You people need to stop thinking the forums are the world.. the world saw MWF2 as the biggest shooter ever created.. and it ended up selling MILLIONS, I honestly doubt reach would ousell MWF2.. that would just be beyond insane.

GT5 will outsell it 2 years after its released. Initially Halo Reach will have far higher sales but GT will have better legs.

i'm doing some research for halo:reach.

the thing about Gran Turismo Series is that the game has strong sales in every region, while Halo Series is best in America.

those look like good numbers for gt5, ill be interested to see your reach numbers, and if you consider movment in preorders for them.

I think both will be over ten million, but i have no idea who will be on top, in my mind it comes down to who jumps to next gen last if both games are of the quality i think they are. as ive said in the forums before any movement to a new gen before 2012 will be a disaster for not only the console that does it but, could cause a gameing fallout on par with the early 80s  crash.

damn, i've yet to do my Halo:Reach numbers. i think i'll post both predictions in their respective thread. ^^

this weekend i'll start my research for Halo:Reach and post my prediction...better late than never!

Most of the threads here are comparing with mostly baseless accusations. The biggest PS3 exclusive so far is MGS4 which stands at 4.81m which is not too far from its highest cousin from PS2, MGS2:Sons of L at 5.58m. You can see a significant drop of around 700k which can be attributed to the smaller PS3 base. The games which have crossed the 10m mark on the PS2 are the GT and GTA series. These are the only games thus it would come as no surprise that GT5 will easily make its most likely higest debut too. Thus it is useless saying that the biggest PS3 exclusive has not pass the 10m mark since they are not even near the 10m mark even during their PS2 era. Take away Halo 3 and Xbox 360 will not have its own exclusive which has passed the 10m mark too. Both are flagship titles and will easily do 10m and more.

Halo is Xbox's flagship and is a FPS which appeals to NA a lot, thus Halo 3 crossin the 10m is not surprising. However Reach is not a main series. Its hype and preorders are nowhere near Halo 3. And Halo has been released on Xbox 360 before thus there are no huge anticipation in waiting for Halo to reach the new console generation as it did with Halo 3. I am not lambasting Halo but from a logical point, it stands that Reach will do fairly well in the millions region but just not as well as GT5.

Similarly, GT is Sony's flagship but it appeals to not just a core demographic but rather a broad range of consumers since it is a racing and simulation genre.  GT5 is also the first in the series to be released on the PS3, being in HD and 3D and having the largest base of vehicles and labels yet. And the most valid point, not only NA is huge on GT, but so is Japan and Europe. This is where GT has an advantage over Halo. If you take a look, every new series in the GT on a new Sony platform has performed huge. If it is a 2nd outing on the same platform, sales drops significantly in NA but actually rises in Japan and EU. And you just need to take a look at GT5:P. A prologue version has sold almost 4m excluding digital sales. Having it cross 10m is not even surprising but a given.

Comparing Reach to GT5 is like comparing GT5:P to Halo 3. Get the parallel comparison for those who dont really get it ? Or rather, its like comparing GT PSP to Halo Reach and I am saying GT PSP will sell more than Halo Reach.

LMAO no its not!  Halo Reach is tracking slightly below MW2 (360 version) for pre-orders and we all know how good that game sold.

Now I'm not saying Reach will sell as well as MW2 but it will sell EXTREMELY well (at least 9-10 million)

For starters, Reach will not even reach half of what MW2 is. And we all know how good MW2 is. For toppings, Pokemon B/W sold more than Reach in Japan alone FW. I am not saying GT5 will sell as well as Pokemon B/W but it will at least sell MORE than Reach(which should reach at most 9million ?) And as a fact, GT does have longer legs than Halo.

So much ignorance from both sides.

OT: Both should do at least 9mi. It'll take GT longer though. It took GT4 4 years to hit 10mil. I expect heavy bundling, so GT5 might do it in 3 years, maybe 2.5 years. If Halo 4 (or whatever) releases in 2 years instead off 3, then Reach's sales probably won't be too high for GT to catch up to.

I think it all comes down to when Halo 4 releases. If 2012, then GT5 has a fair chance. If 2013, it'll have less of a chance. And it depends on when GT6 releases. You also have to consider when PS4 and 720 releases. I expect the PS3 to have a longer lifespan than the 720 by 1 or 2 years, therefore giving GT5 an advantage.

I give it a 45/55 chance of outselling Reach. If it does happen, it'll happen in late 2012/early 2013.
