Forums - Gaming - What does "Winning E3" mean and what do the winners get?

Someone please remind me again what exactly it means to "win E3".  I didn't know there was supposed to be a competitition they won.  I don't see the significance of it, or was aware of what companies get for winning.

I have seen Nintendo say they lost, and also how Sega won E3 when they had Dreamcast, but the world didn't seem to care.  Can anyone fill me in on what this means, how it is determined, and what companies get for "winning"?

I think they pretty much get the heart of gamers, which can result in better word of mouth... besides that nothing much.

Its braggin rights for the fanboys.

The companies get nothing really,  except maybe more publicity for doing a good job at E3,  in that aspect it does help when a company does well.

In my opinon Winning E3 means free press which is free advertising.

All these companies want to sell their products. When everyone talks and praises a particular product they get a large amount of free advertising. This is important nowadays when word of mouth has a strong effect on influencing consumers. Someone attending E3 who says a game was amazing leaves a much stronger impression then a gaming company explaining the features and how amazing the game is.

Winning E3 means shit, Ninty's "lost" before and it still prints money.

to win e3, one muist have the biggest, flashiest, most in-your-face fantastic show. it must be filled with announcements, colors, and celebrities.

the winner recieves a brand new car and $50,000 cash.

no one wins anything really.

whats more important is who wins the year, ie which platform provided the best gaming exp in quality and quantity
