Haha bringing economics into the debate, you know most people don't understand this at all, mostly because people choose to be ignorant an/or force a thought into their minds that they can't figure it out.

But I agree with the article don't be sold on what isn't there, really ask yourself if you want it because of what you know.

Honestly I really disliked the original infamous, I was not going to spend 60 dollars on it, there was no way, infamous 2 has a chance to do better but I must know more info, see more gameplay, and even then would likely want to play the demo first like I did for infamous.

I agree with your post but I don't agree with the article unless I missed something. If DICE advertised the DLC as something different then what they delivered that could be a problem.

OP if I had to spend hours digging for a couple of dollars I'd be pretty pissed too.

I skimmed the article but they DO claim some things are DLC when they are on the disc and the download simply unlocks them... but a lot of companies are doing this now, and downloading a code is still technically downloadable content, thats how the legal system would see it as well.

Eh I say this very often, I HATE DLC!  I think DLC is the worst thing to happen to the game industry simply because previous generations "DLC" would be either things that would be on the disc from the store and required you to do some crazy stunt to unlock a skin for your character, or be a patch on PC games that would give you the new game update as well.

That's simply how it worked and now it's about not only charging you 60 dollars a game but wanting to get even more by offering day one DLC that can be upwards of 10 dollars or more.

yea i agree, i mean how long until tales games no longer have alternate outfits you unlock but are dlc.

how long until the green stars in mario galaxy 2 would have been a dlc

how long until many of the extra characters in smash or other fighters are download content.

just say the newest dlc for dragon age and was like "what the hell, we already got that story's conclusion played out during the game if you talked to lilliana"

But DLC is another economic concept: Price discrimination. It means that people who are willing to pay more for a premium product pay more and people who are not willing to pay more get a more basic product. Its actually one of the better things added to the games industry because instead of charging $70  for the same content as an example they can charge $60 as the base price and $80-90 including DLC and provide extra value for those who want it whilst gaining extra revenue without putting off those who don't care for the frills.

You see it all the time in anything where the seller has a monopoly or close to it. The seller of any IP has a state mandated monopoly on that content and is therefore free to price discriminate. Its the reason why there are hard/soft cover books, the reason why Microsoft has 7 different versions of the same OS on the same disc and why DLC exists.

Btw I still don't agree with what Dice did here, however.

Tease.

I'm lost. Maybe it's just because I don't pay attention to this game. Wasn't all of the Bad Company 2 DLC supposed to be free for the people with the new buyer code?

But it wasn't DLC.

I wouldn't even mind disc locked content, since there was a CD code for things like Rome: Total War.

But I HATE being lied to, as a consumer.

As for the Specat DLC, I was sold a crappy product, so I'm going to be more cautious now.

I'm still lost. When the game was coming out and the arguments of it against MW2 were being discussed, the BC2 super fans were arguing that with the new buyer code you would receive everything free they release as DLC add-ons. Where does what you're saying fit into that, because that's the extent of my knowledge regarding the game. Are they now charging new buyers for these new DLC packs or something?

We've been told that we will get new DLC for free. What we got were disc locked content, and still being charged for new content, and that new content being crap.

So, we've been lied to.

Gotcha. That sucks, and it's precisely what I warned people about when they OKed EA doing this. I warned them it was disastrous when they tried it in Madden first, and they would see it for what it really is. Anyone remember who it was starkly defending DICE and EA on this and tearing down Modern Warfare 2 when Bad Company 2 was going to be released? I could have sworn I heard about DICE taking care of their customers or some junk a junk.

I did that same.....until I bought Fallout DLC.....and GTA DLC....but nothing else...oh right Mass Effect DLC (Yes even the crappy skin one)...but nothing beyond that.

Also thanks op, I take a break from studying investment finance...to get a bunch economics thrown at me! WHEN WILL IT END!

Edit: Also what if said company never has screwed one in the person? (Like Nintendo)

Edit2: Infamous 2 is day 1 for me! :P

Edit2: The thing is, consumers are not going to great deal of information search on smaller things like $10 DLC. When the cost grows higher, the need for information does as well.

What do u mean. Dont the console versions have server selection? You cant scan servers and pick the one u like?

Wow. Have you ever considered establishing a city?

Having said that, you bought it. DICE hasn't taken the sweat of your brow, your labour or your mind. You used those three to get the money to buy the DLC, and you willingly spent money to buy the DLC. And most of what you said is common sense, but common sense is a commodity in low supply at the moment, so...I approve.

Yes, that's why from now on I'm going to use my MIND and not my now lost TRUST in DICE. DICE misled me and still thinks it can commit fraud on us. Watch the Onslaught DLC fail, nobody in the Bad Company forums support DICE anymore.

It's over for them, and I want to prevent people from making the same mistake I made. No longer can we trust devs anymore this gen. No dev is safe anymore, as even Valve is succumbing to quick cash ins.

We have to all support each other, and ourselves, by spreading information.
