I have to agree with op that Microsoft might be like Nintendo before.
More specifically i think xbox is going to share fate of gamecube in few incoming years ;)

The critical reception for Wii Music was also similar and eventually it did fail. So it's just as likely (if not moreso) that Kinect could go that way too. |
No critics, media and community reception for Wii Music was similiar and eventually it did fail. Kinect is getting favorable reception by the critics and media (particularly non gaming press). It is just the community that is looking down at Kinect.
Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Well, of course. Since you have to stand up to play it, it's not at eye level.

when i saw them attached to their belts I instantly thought about someone seducing a 3ds girl and stealing her treasure. |
Lol... quote of the thread.
I game. You game. We game.
I'm a videogamer, not a fanboy, but have a special place for Nintendo.

Microsoft has not failed... they have failed you.
This is their first step into going full (well, almost full anyway) casual for the future - where the money really is
Of course that means sacrifices to their hardcore investments, but they want to command the family living room, not the fratboy bedroom anymore.
To me Kinect is going to sell a lot, much more than move - even though I'm gonna buy move and not Kinect.

The hate didn't begin again until 2007/2008, when people were mad the Wii was selling so well and were scared games like Wii Fit would kill gaming or whatever. Now compare this to Microsoft: E309 - Controller free gaming? What?? This is crazy! Can't wait to see more! Honestly, the two seem fairly opposite to me. People laughed at the Wii's premice, but it ended up delivering a year later. With Kinect, most people were quite impressed at first, then gradually became more and more let down. |
Nintendo didn't show the Wii remote at E3 2005, they showed it at the TGS 2005. Just saying.
The BuShA owns all!

It'll be interesting to see how many of teh casualz will be willing to shell out for Live Gold, which is where MS seems to make all its money.
Microsoft doesn't really strike me as being capable of stealing Nintendo's audience, but they do seem very capable of losing their own if they push this shit too hard, too fast on the "frat boys" who have been their biggest supporters since day one. Nintendo, on the other hand, seems perfectly positioned to unify a lot of this divided market behind them next generation.
| badgenome said: You might have a point if Microsoft knew what the hell they were doing, but it's all so incredibly half-baked. They looked at Nintendo making money hand over fist and said, "We want that." So they bought some interesting technology that seemed like it might be able to "out-Wii the Wii" and made a bunch of gamez 4 teh casualz. Problem is, said games are less Nintendo and more... Gameloft. |
This. It really seems like Microsoft is just charging headlong into this market, much like they have with other markets before, but video games are much harder to get right than personal music players and search engines (though i'll grant that Bing is actually quite well executed)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
Well no, I was highly interested in Natal last year and what they could come up with software wise. Now this year all they showed was games that remind me of games I already have or are on my Wii. The one game they showed that I would want to play as of now was the rafting game, but that is far from worth the price for a Xbox plus Natal. Honestly, yea it is more advanced than the Wii mote and all, but the way they are doing it and the way Nintendo did thier E3 makes it look dated.
The whole hands free to search through movies and stuff is neat, but its being said you have to stand up, so wtf's the point? That goes against just using a simple remote..
Nothing they showed besides the raft game looks fun or useful to me. It is the oppsite of how I looked a Wii. At first I was a bit uneasy about how it would work and if it even would. Now, it is my favorite system since the SNES. Yea, sorry I do not follow your line of thought.

My guess is that most of the press was thinking the same thing: "Whoa, they're popping out right at me! The 3DS games are neat too." |
I would have thought that's what the girls were thinking.
