I've already seen several rumours saying Sony is working with Ericsson for the next PSP. If so and they add 3G/Phone support to the PSP2 than it might actually outsell the 3DS. Only having to carry around one device instead of two is a huge advantage.

Then they will compete with iphone which will stomp sony to death. I doubt Apple would want unwanted visitors to step into their throne in the phone market. Who cares about a phone? My iphone is going to be 4G soon.

I don't wanna burt your bubble but android has already overtaken Apple. So the phone "throne" doesn't belong to Apple, in fact it never did.

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

It doesn't matter who's leading the phone market right now, Sony is in a spot where it doesn't know what the hell it's going to do. Sure the PSP can go the erricson way but that will lead them to the phone market that's survival is worse than gaming. If they do that they aren't competing with the 3DS. The 3DS is all about gaming not about who calls who or what minutes plan who has.

Remember the NGage...this time there's also Apple and with so many smartphones PSP would just become one out of a ton of devices who are the same. IMO it would be safetier staying in the handheld market, but adding some phone features would not be a bad move.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

You shouldn't really look at it as a full-on phone, just as feature to make the PSP more appealing to take around. Like you said yourself you already carry around a phone with you(in you're case Iphone wich also offers some decent casual gaming). You don't want to take around an extra device.

And as i've already stated in other topics....... who say's the next PSP won't be 3D aswell?....

PSP2 will be fine. It'll have 2 screens. It'll have touch screen(s). It'll have 3D screen(s).

It may even comes with 4 cameras.

that's not true..many smartphone's compete against Apple's Iphone and for the second straight month  Android OS based smartphone has outsold the Iphone this Quarter!

that's the great thing about smartphone's . it's the software that seperates them. with SE being the only smartphone with game's from Playstation IP's that is one theing most likely the other phone's will never have!

and why exactly should they have to directly compete they can indirectly compete just like the Iphone currently does.

the NGage is not powered by Android...:)

something the PSPhone would be..it would have Playstation portable app's and Android app's to boot.

the Smartphone world does not center arround Apple.

they already did that..skype anyone! but it was at first akward to do so with a phone it would be just like anyother smartphone.

So i guess people think all the best engineers in the world work for Nintendo then? because some believe that Nintendo is the only company that can make a gaming device.

In all fairness Sony did not announce a new device, but there is absolutely no doubt that they are working on something, and if the current trend is any indication, and knowing Sony's history, they will make a just as capable 3D portable gaming device as Nintendo did, i mean what is stopping them from doing so? Some naive comments you just should have enough common sense to ignore as fanboy rubbish.
