This isn't news is it? All the 360s have done that since launch.

This....everybody should know don't move your 360 around when a disc is spinning around in it.

This is a re-design though. You'd think they would have fixed this design flaw in a re-design. As someone above said, it'd be pretty easy for kids to knock the console when playing on Kinect. At least (for MS) they've covered themselves legally with the label.

Why not fix the problem because unfortunately money is a limited resource, take this example

a. MSFT can spend 500,000 redesigning the system so people can move their consoles while a disc is spinning...

b. MSFT can spend that money publishing a game...

Personally I'd rather see choice B being taken.

I have heard in the past Microsoft has reimbursed games that were scratched from moved consoles, and there's also another solution the this, the 360 console doesn't need to spin the disc with the full install to HD that lowers loading times, reduces pop-in, and makes your 360 quieter than either Wii or PS3.

Are you serious?  $500,000 redisigning it just so you can move it while in play?  It wouldn't take any kind of R&D to do this.  All it would require them is to drop a few extra bucks per drive (if that) for a better quality one.  I mean Nintendo and Sony did this at the start of the gen.  Where's MS?  Besides, it's obvious it took them money to develop the new design.  Are you telling me that's all that came out of it, finding space for Wi-Fi and a new case?  Don't you think they should have at least improved one of the major flaws that people filed lawsuits over?

The European consumer advocates show that did a piece on the Xbox 360 scratching discs estimated it only costs about $0.03 to add rubber bumpers to the laser lens assembly which is what comes into contact with the disc surface when sufficiently jarred.

From what I understand, that's what the later DVD drives in the 360 had; not sure why they sourced OEM drives without the bumpers in the new consoles.

It's pretty dumb to move a console like that while it's on, but on the other hand you'd expect an American company to make things more idiot-proof... since the US is the land of frivolous lawsuits and all.

I totally agree.

That being said, I just deliberately changed the orientation of my Xbox a few times while a DVD was spinning in the drive (something I never do normally) and... nothing happened. No scratches.

It looks like MS sourced OEM drives without the rubber bumpers that have been in use since the Zephyr (2nd) model 360s.

They should probably fix that in subsequent batches or there will be more scratched disks and naturally, more people howling at their own stupidity for not reading that label.

I heard there was a scratching issue. But I didn't realize you have to move the console for it to happen.

I assume this applies to any cd tray drive like the PS2 fat.

.......

no, I moved it numerous times , this never happened.

Do people go moving consoles whilst playing their games? Like really? Fuck me honestly...

That isn't that bad its kinda obvious not shake a computer when something inside is spinning but lets hope there isn't any other issue.

The guy in the video didn't shake the console, he just started turing it from horizontal to vertical and then "KRRRRKTT!" as he laughs about the label on the drive that says not to change the orientation of the console while the drive is accessing.

"Is this coffee labeled 'Caution: Hot Coffee!' hot? AAAARRRGH! Yep!"

Not sure if you can do this with a 360, but I used to take my PS2 in the car when I was younger and had a screen connected to it. Got power from the cigarette socket in the car. Also do the same with my laptop. But if you can buy this screen for the 360 doesn't this make it useless?

Mostly affect younger kids because I personally don't bring a console on long journeys although I will still bring my laptop and watch a movie or something. Oh and what's the new 360 called? How did MS introduce it?

Breaking NEWS!

Dont move a console whilst your playing a game.

Dont kick, puch or knock your console whilst playing.

Pretty standard stuff for any console really.
