It certainly did take a kind of genius to go from profiting $1b year from Playstation products to losing almost that much per year while in the same stroke going from 70% market share to 25% market share in the space of five years. Previous declines happened much slower.

(End Sarcasm)

I know, right! He totally didn't create arguably the greatest videogame system ever seen. Twice. Three times.

I mean, i bet he totally wishes that he was intelligent enough to try guess sales numbers for a single region once a week, and usually get them wrong!

(End Sarcasm)

You're completely and hopelessly biased, aren't you? I'm sure that substantial facts mean little in the face of that, but know this. "Best" is your opinion, the fact that he drove the playstation brand into the damn ground, and now it's struggling to surpass the "Xbox" is something of an inconvinient truth.

The Playstation 3 launched with a series of dumbass moves including price, and the fact that 3rd and 1st parties made some good games on the console after he was retired has nothing to do with the fact that the business decisions were terrible, and forced him into retirement. It's still a 3rd place console.

Someone else who doesn't read full posts.

1. I never said "Best"

2. I said "arguably".

I'm gonna delete this post, because I REALLy don't want to get into a internet fight. :P

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

You guys are so sensitive - I didn't insult PS1 / PS2 games but you guys are pretending like Sony is the same monolothic power it was from 1996-2005 and attributing only the good to Kurtagi while ignoring the bad. What I said is true - PS3 and PSP have far lower market share than they were supposed to and have cost the company enormous sums of money. Again, I haven't knocked the games - but a fall from 70% domination in the PS2 era to a third of that with PS3, and claiming that PSP would take portable gaming out of the ghetto all reeks of anything but brilliance at forecasting the future. Get over it. Kurtagi was responsible for PSP and PS3 planning - wouldn't you laugh if I called Bernie Stolar of Sega a genius for designing the strategy of the Saturn depiste the hugely profitable Genesis in the prior generation. Come on.

I'm not here to troll. But The Source is dead right.

Ken said before PS3 launched that PS3 could be any price and it would sell. Effectively calling the fanbase morons by saying this.

The article completely misses the fact that Ken relied entirely on the so called PS name. He failed to see that the PS2 was such a success because of the tremendous 3rd party support. Not because of the PS2. If the Xbox had all the 3rd party support or the wii, it would have been different and with better visuals.

Ken made absolutely no business sense in PS3 and had no direction. Only now does PS3 have direction. It has an identity. Something Ken missed entirely.

He effectively allowed M$ to move in on the gaming market. And because of that, M$ will now never let go. Sony have been recovering ever since he cocked up, and lost them all the PS2 profit. M$ saw there opening and took it.

Yes Ken did ok with PS1 and 2 hardware ( well PS1 was more Nintendo than Sony ) but 3rd party support of which was many exclusives was the key.

SELNOR is not here for TROLLING...............LMAO

and actually it was SONY's decision to put BLU-RAY as they wanted a future revenue source so solely didn't allow it

Why are you LMAO? He didn't troll. He just stated what really happened.

The real question is what are YOU here for.

You used to gloat every time SONY did bad when the charts had the comment function, now your in this thread why? You have offered no constructive criticism.

Your best post in this thread consitss of 1 word thats is "Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun"

that says a lot

What am I here??? Well... since i thought this was an open website, and I could enter any thread I wanted.....

Constructive criticism? Is that what you want? Ok.... As thesource said, the ps3 was a shitty project since the beginning. Sony dig its own tomb, and with stupid shit like "it will sell at 599 with no games"  "people will work double, to get it" well..... There's a reason Ken Kutaragi is not with Sony anymore. Stupid people tend to make stupid decisions. That's the result of it.

I believe theSource spoke nothing but the thruth, and a lot of users here jumped on him, just b/c they felt he was hurting beloved sony =( some even involved the ps and the ps2 in this......

And the run part is exactly b/c of this.... You can't say anything bad about Sony in this site. Even, if you are telling nothing but the pure thruth

No, i think you misunderstood everything

The way I understand the sarcasm, I believe, is that:

I mean, i bet he totally wishes that he was intelligent enough to try guess sales numbers for a single region once a week, and usually get them wrong!

The bolded part was the sarcasm, and thus is it a personal insult, imo. If I read it wrong, I truely apologize.

Oh how I wish our staff could control themselves, and if they have a point that goes against the thread they term it in a way that doesn't turn the thread into a fanboy war in the first reply.  But sadly that isn't to be.

I hope you're joking, but if you haven't noticed, almost every criticism of Sony on the Sony boards leads to a flame war, no matter how it's phrased. The fact that he decided to use sarcasm in his post, which is a legitimate argument, is irrelevant to what's happening in this thread.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

I am not joking, he made a flamebait post.  Now if he had said his point in a decent way and not tried to cause a fight then the Sony fans who start the flamewar in response would be at fault.  But since Source made a flamebait post he is the one who started the flamewar, and he is the one at fault for the current state of the thread.

The same could be said of the Nintendo boards and the Microsoft boards (though in the MS boards it's nowhere near as bad)
