Nintendo won't 'win' this E3 in the minds of many gaming journalists because Wii Party and Wii Relax will be there-I wouldn't bet against an onstage demonstration of one of those titles. Even if they have onstage demos of Metroid, Zelda and unannounced 'core' titles, many gaming journos will claim that Wii series titles being given stage time detracts from the show.
The simple truth is the gaming press doesn't fully represent the market Nintendo appeals to. They represent a small minority of it, and in some cases don't represent any of it. Nintendo still have it in them to excite the gaming press, just expect there to be plenty of hate regarldless of how good Nintendo's show is.
Although it will be interesting to see if Microsoft and Sony receive similar negative press from these same minorities when they trot out their Wii Sports/Fit imitators and mini game collections. I bet they don't receive as much scorn as Wii Party/Relax.
All this being said, the gaming press is massively out of touch with the modern market. Despite slowing sales and increased competition from all quarters, Nintendo hardware and software does still dominate. And that dominance has come despite the gaming press slamming their previous few E3 presentations. Even though I expect Nintendo's Wii line up this year to be phenomenal, and I have high hopes for 3DS.
I also fully expect some websites to slag Zelda off for being 'waggle' based and for dumbing down the series. You heard it here first, folks!
