Indeed, the iPad is very expensive and won't hit the volume that a Nintendo portable could hit but you have to keep in mind that all of Apple's iPhone based portables (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad) are basically the same platform when it comes to games just as the DS lite, DSi and DSi XL are all the same platform (basically).

He sounds like Nintendo is completely doomed, wich is stupid. But i do agree that Nintendo's next consoles probably won't sell as well as the current generation.
Portable gaming will probably shift more and more to phones, since nobody like dragging around two devices. But right now the quality of the phone game market just isn't up to par yet.
The Wii is probably a given, i can't see any way how NIntendo can innovate in the next gen as they did with the Wii. Maybe if they launch a system with mind control, but getting gaming as mainstream as they did with Wii is hard to beat.

He could be right if 3DS fails. Which I don't think will happen,but, who knows.
