Forums - Sony Discussion - Rumour: Team Ico Collection: Q1 2011?

Would be awesome, though I hope the date is wrong b/c I want The Last Guardian this year and it seems like they'd put the Collection out before the new game released, right?  Though I guess that's not as clear as with the GoW collection where you'd really want to play I and II before III.

If true and the conversion is as good as GoW1/2 then I'll have to buy it. I still play both ICO and SOTC from time to time upscaled on my PS3, and I'd love to see them in proper HD.

The upscaling better be better than GoW 1 and 2. They were extremely half-assed, with the cutscenes not recieving any upscaling at all.

The HD game improvement was very good I thought - but the cutscenes were disappointing.  In ICO/SOTC cutscenes were all in-game engine vs actual pre-rendered though, correct?  So unless I'm wrong I'm assuming that the cutscenes would be generated in-engine again using HD assets.

With GoW1 and 2 I thought the cutscenes were actually pre-rendered using assets and they had been lazy in simply using them again without upgrading them.

You are wrong. In GoW1 and 2 neither the pre-rendered nor the in-game cutscenes were upscaled, which led to some extremely hideous in-game cutscenes.

You're a bit confused (please don't ban me).

Almost ALL cutscenes in GoW 1 & 2 are pre-rendered using in-game assets...You know, kinda like UC2. This is proved by the use of special costumes. If you use the Cow costume in GoW and Doughnut Drake in UC2, they will switch back to the normal versions in almost all cutscenes.

They made these cutscenes using in-game assets. All they could do is increase the resolution of those cutscenes to HD and this meant they didn't have the Anti-aliasing or the superior lighting which they added with the PS3 port.

Remaking those cutscenes using the new AA'd assets would have taken much more time and it would have been almost impossible to re-create the exact same thing.

Thats why the CGI cutscenes look amazing in HD in GoW 1 & 2. They didn't add anything to those (obviously).

Guys, I'm 1000% CERTAIN We'll be getting the Team ICO collection next year. In the last Zipper podcast when they were talking about fan feedback and letting SONY know what the costumers want they mentioned how the GoW Collection only exist because of the GoW3 Survey about the deluxe edition. So many people picked and posted about how they wanted GoW1 and 2 being part of the package so SONY green lit the project.

SONY knows how so many gamers want X-game chat and it's number 1 on blog.share. Team ICO collection is NUMBER 5 and with more than half the votes of X-Game Chat. No way SONY could ignored this. It's a no-brainer.

I guess i can forget demon souls+ps move then lol, so many people voted it down oh dear oh well at least know i know not everyone feels the same way about that idea....

it's the future of handheld

PS VITA = LIFE

Oh man I want this really bad cause I don't have a PS2 to play SotC or ICO on anymore and I've been playing both at my friends so I want to know how the whole game is. Add trophies to that and stabilizing the engine so it can run at more than below 30 frames and it'd be a day 1 buy for me.

No, I understand how the cutscenes were made, and the CGI cutscenes look like ass in GoW Collection too. For one thing GoW's CGI was horrible in the first place. There are numerous PS1 games that did it better, but they weren't upscaled and you still see a sharp contrast between them and the smoothness of the actual game with anti-aliasing applied.
