Forums - Nintendo - Mario galaxy 2 can and should be considered art

either they all are or none are.

and I say they are

Game Party can and should be considered art. Art, as a label, has no real intrinsic value. It can be ugly, beautiful, moving, worthless, a waste of materials, or anything else quite honestly. The endless debate over whether or not something is entirely pointless.

Even tho Galaxy is my fav game in the last decade and Galaxy 2 may soon replace it, I would have to disagree.

Some how art has come to mean "great" in the mind of gamers. But art is an expression.

I think of it like this:

You can have two houses, 1) one is considered art. It looks interesting because it's made off recycled glass bottles. But it's not really somewhere you WANT to live. It's a spectacle, and more importantly an expression of the artists heart (in this case being green). It's very rarely a game does this. I could only think of SotC.

The other house is a well crafted house designed for being lived in. It has the latest amenities and the builders only used the best materials. It's completely functional and has many innovations to make it even more comfortable. It's well crafted. I think all great video games fall into this category, including SMG2.

I guess to be succinct: there is a difference between Art and Craftmanship. Great games reguire craftmanship more so than art.

(i realize this doesnt address the superficial artistic design that most great games posses [ie Okami, Metriod Prime], but the visuals are just one part of the body of work. A house with the Mona Lisa in it wouildnt be considered an art piece just because it has art in it)

when every single frame represents the bleeding developers soul, I am inclined to believe that they represent an art-form

In the 300 years, if people still remember Galaxy 2, we can talk.

Above: still the best game of the year.

thats like saying that micael angelo's david was only considered art 300 years later.  Your logic, cheeky as it may seek to be, is ultimatley flawed.

Zack & Wiki > Mario Galaxy 2.

Well the first game was beautiful and this game looks even better! Nintendo always has been good at being artistic.

we should start a Petition and send it to MoMa

my signature went on strike, it's demanding 3% raise

No, it should be considered a game.

Funny how all of the pepole here who never learned anything about art are trying to justify Super Mario Galaxy 2 as one.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.
