Forums - Gaming - Why are some Nintendo fans angry with Move?

it's not like nintendo don't do it, get it over it's called competition it's good cuz you will get better prices.

nintendo jumped on CD based disc, ds dual analog/l2r2 buttoms.

The reason that the Gamecube had smaller discs was that Nintendo wanted to decrease the threat of piracy.

I"m not saying that I'm extremely frustrated with Sony. Basically the only thing I'm disappointedd with is that Sony's and Nintendo's controllers look so similar, as in they are shaped exactly the same. I know there's not a whole lot of options, but I still think there are more things Sony could've done to make more of a difference between the controllers. I'm not angry with Sony moving to motion control, I'm angry that the controllers look so similar.

That is the answer to the question of the title of this thread

So. Let me get this right. Some Nintendo fans are angry because...

Sony's remote is black, while the Wii's is white.

Sony's has a wireless sub-controller, the Wii's doesn't.

Sony's has a big coloured ball on the end, the Wii's doesn't.

Sony's uses a camera to work, the Wii's doesn't.

Sony's is more accurate than the Wii's.

Sony's cannot be tilted to be used like a traditional controller, the Wii's can.

OT:
I think it's more to do with the more hardcore Wii fanbase being worried of 3rd parties reaction to it. If it sells well enough, we could see 3rd parties show even less attention to the Wii. ESPECIALLY if Natal takes off too. I predict lots of butthurt talk after E3, if Natal is looking good...

Looks don't matter. It's the same thing, it just looks different.

Nintendo could've made the Nunchuck wireless if they wanted too, but they didn't.

Of course Move will be more accurate! Technology always gets better as time goes on.

If Nintendo wanted to make entirely new and more accurate controllers, they could. But instead of making customers buy entirely new controllers, they made Motion+

If looks don't matter than why did you post a pointless picture showing how the 2 controllers look?

ignore them they are all butt hurt because the wiimote is not as good as ps move, as it has augmented reality and it can also do some things that natal can do like body tracking, notice how no-one is attacking natal, it looks like ps move may well be more succesful then we all think and the ninty fans now that which is why they keep on attacking it.

not to mention it already has better games for it, even though wm+ has been around for a while and all they got was wii sports resort that was worth getting i mean all that for a £40 add on i would be pissed off as well, which is why i did not bother with wm+ and will just get ps move instead

Excuse me, but I'm pretty sure Sony hasn't released Move yet, so who are you to say that Move is better than the Wii? Yes, you've seen commercials, interviews, etc..., but those things only show the positive aspects of the product. It's like an advertisement. You don't know everything you're getting until you actually get it. You can't say that Move is better than Wii because Move hasn't been released yet, you don't know how successful it's going to be, and you don't know how well it's going to work. Yes, the Wii seemed amazing, but it didn't live up to my full expectations, but that's because my expectations were raised by all the hype, the commercials, and everything else. But the Wii still is amazing, don't get me wrong, it's just that sometimes people think something "sucks" because they had their expectations too high.

you know what irritates me is the fact that none of the people hating on move have done thier research properly, i mean ps move copied wii games come on eye toy play sports came out on playstation eye, and video's exist of the ps move developers exploring the concept of using a wand dating back all the way to 2004 which was before wiimote even existed, which is why sony fans get mad on ninty fans for hating ps move, and if it's not going to be a big sucess (don't care for the big official thread) then how come this stupid thread has lasted for so long with lots of arguments from both sides.

trouble is i have seen lots of public showings of move and everyone always comes back positive from them saying it's like the wiimote(with wm+) but better and ps gives the better gfx as well, it's just so much more interesting sorry, also ps move has natal capabilities thanks to the camera, can wiimote do that - no so it's not a copy!!!

see. ididn't know any of that. this is news to me, but i did know sony worked on motion controles during the life of the PS2.

yea. i thought they would have made two joysticks with both having analog sticks.

Its because they know PS move is a better product, it can do so much more, and its more accurate , and this is several developers talking, its on a HD console, now people will have the best of both worlds. and last Sony will take market share from Nintendo. They all want to talk there smack about copying Nintendo, Thats why PS move itself has been in development for 9 years, before Nintendo released the Wii, I won't even list all the things Nintendo and MS have copied from Sony, that is the game, someone developes a product, there is always someone looking to make it better just like Sony did, Just like all car makers do, Ford, then Chevrolet, Dodge, they all studied each others cars and Ideas and made them better and better. Some people and Fans just can't Deal. Its the way the world turns.

What do you expect Sony to do here?

Nintendo's made an incredibly successful product. Sony didn't think it would be successful, so they ridiculed it. Then, they ridiculed it out of fear, fear that their multitude of original IPs and HD graphics were getting beaten by motion control.

Then it DID take off, and naturally Sony (and Microsoft) wanted a piece of the motion control pie. The technology was there, but it had been left on the backburner. Nintendo convinced Sony that motion control was worth investing in, so they did, and they had to save SOME face, so they said that the Wiimote was casual and Move is a hardcore experience.

As for people saying the Wiimote was a gimmick and Move is Sony's gift to mankind, I have doubts about the existence of these people. I haven't encountered any. And if they do exist, just ignore them. There are...overly enthiusiastic fans on all sides.

Ugh, no they didnt.

I played SOCOM 4, Move Party, The Shoot, Brunswick Pro Bowling, EyePet, and Sports Champions using the PlayStation Move at GDC this year.  I have yet to be convinced that it is a better product.  The Move's subchuck attachment doesn't have motion or tilt sensing in it, and the PS3 can't talk to 4 subchucks at once, so if you're playing a 4 player game, everybody can only use one controller instead of two.  The Wii solved those problems in 2006.  And if the Move has far superior tech, the games aren't showing it yet, though hopefully that will change in the future.  Their competition isn't the Wii remote; their competition is the Wii Motion+ and Wii Sports Resort.  Wii Sports Resort has already sold 15.4 million, making it the 20th best-selling game of all time.  For comparison, the best-selling PS3 game (Modern Warfare 2) has sold about half that, at 7.89 million.

If the Move was actually in development for 9 years, then all the Sony PR quotes about how motion control is a stupid gimmick for senior citizens, and how Sony would never copy something stupid like that, IS THE REASON NINTENDO FANS ARE ANGRY.  That is their hypocricy right there.  They either hated motion controls for years, got owned by Nintendo, and changed their minds, or they were just lying for years while secretly developing the Move.  Either way, from a PR point of view, it looks really bad.  That's what people are mad about.  This is the same reason people were mad at Sony when they said "rumble is last gen technology, motion controls are the future" for their original SIXAXIS controller, when it was obvious that the only reason they didn't use rumble was because Immersion (the owners of the rumble tech) were suing them.  As soon as the lawsuit and its appeals were all over and settled, rumble was back in the new DualShock 3.  Sony PR was caught insulting rumble for no good reason, then they brought rumble back.  THEN, after calling motion the future, they called it a stupid gimmick for senior citizens.  THEN they announced the Move.  I'm sure that each time somebody at Sony insults a specific technology, somebody else at Sony is doing a facepalm because they're working on that exact product.  It just makes the company look bad and unorganized, like nobody at Sony knows what anybody else at Sony is doing.

And regarding the potential success of the Move:

For years we've known that in the future everybody would have motion controls.  Nintendo proved that taking away complex controllers and replacing them with intuitive TV-remote-esque controllers that anybody would already know how to use can expand your userbase tenfold.  But Nintendo's been advertising this for 4 years, and Sony and Microsoft have been talking about it for just about a year, and they don't have their products on the market yet.  They won't be stealing the Wii's thunder anytime soon.  The Wii has too much momentum in the areas of expanded audience and innovative/intuitive controls, and the PS3 and 360 have too much momentum in the hardcore/"mature"/HD/gritty-realism direction.  You can't just change what your company and your console are about overnight.  Nintendo spent years building the Wii into what it is today, and the PS3 has been fighting that same concept for years.  It might be great tech, and it might even get some amazing games at some point (although none of the launch games have the same wow factor that Wii Sports had in 2006 IMHO), but it won't be a giant paradigm shift that steals the Wii's thunder.  Wii Sports already did that exact paradigm shift, stealing the PS3's thunder.  You can't just... take it back.

a better question is:
Why some sony fans are always angry with wii?

This is an easy one which includes more than just Sony fans. Wii success can mean in some cases (not all) more "dumb" down games. For example; There is no doubt Wii success had an huge impact of how the game Spores finally turned out. Spores was nothing like what the game start out as. Some neat ideas got dump just to make the game more accessable.

Matter of fact Spores didn't even came out on wii, it came out spore heroes, which is a totally different game than spores on PC, not just a conversion.

In case you haven't notice consoles (not just Wii) have made a big impact on PC games in recent years.

That's true so what's your point?

Hmmm. it answered your question. Wii success have an effect on other games including those on other platforms.

You are contradiccting yourself, you say that some gamers hate the Wii beacuse is having an impact on pc games, and than you say that consoles (not just Wii) have made a big impact on pc games as well, following that argument gamers should hate every console because they have an impact on gaming.....that's nosense

Hello? which console is winning the console war this time around which happens to appeal to  the more "casual" gamer? X360/PS3 have move some toward PC.(online,HDD, HD,etc.)

heres a little egg. PC has always won the war. and consoles don't win wars. gamers do every gen when good games are released.
