Nintendo trash talking confirmed! To bad they trash talk themselves more than the competition. |
I think that's why they are so good at what they do by constantly challenging themselves.
I do the same on guitar

That quote was NEVER UTTERED...EVER. Unless you have a real verifiable QUOTE from anyone at Nintendo saying that, this needs to be thrown into the trash. |
Nintendo is feeling pretty confident about their current position in the market, with the report noting that Iwata feels as if the "battle with Sony" is a "victory already won," and that Apple is the one that should now be treated as the "enemy of the future."

This is not a veriable quote, what's the source? The only 'source' that I have seen for this says something like "it is reported Iwata said...........".
I don't personally care whether he said it or not but, for the sake of accuracy, if we are going to start flaming certain people for trash talking and being arrogant etc. a proper quote and source would be nice.

You can google "battle with sony is over" - or "apple enemy of the future".

Journalists putting quotation marks around random words doesn't make it true, because anyone can play that game, and it's one of the oldest tabloid tricks around... 'A source close to xxx says' 'A report suggests xxx has said that' etc etc. If it had any truth in it then they would have given a direct quote rather than use that old trick. I'll even try it right now.
Nintendo sources say "we're going to use all our profits to buy a giant death ray."
Microsoft sources say "we could give you Live for free but we like free money."
Sony sources say "we're basing this game on actual historical events. Here's this giant enemy crab, you can attack its weak point for massive damage."

Yes, an awesome list of the "smack talk" Nintendo has done. Though some of them aren't. 1. Apple is a company, but in context. This isn't smack talk, it's stupidity. It's like saying the PC isn't a viable gaming platform. iSeries uses the PC process of movement. Start technical move to other areas. 3. He actually admits it's a good game, but Sony has gone gung ho for action, shooters and other violent games. I'ts like saying Seseme street shouldn't be on the PS2 because it was the hardcore machine last gen. oh wait..... 4. That's just disgusting smack talk right there. Not only are walking the walk, they are insulting and doing bragging rights before the games came out. This is just bad behaviour as anything the others have given out even worse in some cases. booooo reggie, boooo. 7. Come on Nintendo this is a bit insulting isn't it. Do you really need to be poor winners? |
1. I'd agree with this one being pretty silly.
3. He spoke on LBP before, I'm pretty sure this quote was meant to be along the same lines. The older one read like this:
"That product, I think, is quite intriguing. I'm not sure how well it will do on the Sony platform, quite frankly, but I think that the product they showed was outstanding."
4. This really wasn't smack talk. Have you seen the interview? It was just a friendly bet he made with Geoff Keighly (who kind of goaded him into it, anyway). Not to mention what he said immediately after when asked if it would be close (in sales):
"Sure it's going to be close," he said. "Modern Warfare's a great title. As a gamer, I look forward to it."
7. That was just the catchy headline, what he said was reasonable. See this (it's Reggie's first paragraph)

He could have just passed the question along or answered without insulting his competitors, he responded like that only because he had the 3DS in mind and wanted to downplay his 3D competitor and his handheld competitor. Plenty of the thing's Sony and Microsoft have said are true when attacking their competitors, it doesn't make it any less rude. I'm just trying to point out that Nintendo aren't the saint's that the fans seem to think they are. |
I would be very careful in citing Kotaku as a source to show Nintendo "trash talking."
Kotaku is not the most kind to Nintendo, so any opportunity to present the company or its products (or both) in a bad light is generally exploited by the website.
Please note that I am not saying the quotes listed are inaccurate. However, the paragraphs linking them are far more derogatory than the text itself.
In other words, Kotaku may be taking disconnected quotes and setting them in a context that is not entirely accurate.

Then the thread is pointless and you also back's up what I said before, all companies can say negative thing's about their competitors and it really shouldn't matter. When company's compete in the same market, I expect them to trash talk and despite if the statement was true in the guy's 'opinion' it still should be labeled as trash talk. I'm just trying to exempt Nintendo from this godly status a lot of people seemed to give them recently, even though they have been the most arrogant in the later part of this gen. |
No trash talk is not an opinion. Trash talk is saying something about a competitor that is meant to cover your own weaknesses. For instance Only kids or grannies buy Nintendo is trash talk it is not based on fact and it is not the grounds of opinions since the facts are researchable in that case Saying motion controls are a fad is not trash talk. Saying waggle controls make you look like an idiot is. You might think they are the same one is attacking the people who use it the other is an pinion of what they see the future is.
You don't expect companies to say nice things about other companies. However trash talk is more then just expressing an opinion. However if you drink the Kool Aid of Company X then trash talk doesn't seem like that.
