Forums - Gaming - Favorite RPG this gen, and why?

This thread is a tad too intellectual.

That being said, I find Oblivion to be the best RPG this gen. The scale of the game as well as the diversity makes it amazing. Also, it had the most complex side missions I've experienced. And the whole atmosphere of the game is charming.

There is no such thing sir!

May I ask what you mean when you say "the diversity"?

I'll have to go with Yakuza 3. It's just a staggeringly multifaceted game: I laughed, I cried (when Rikiya died!), and I nerd raged (Ultimate Skill Mode - Tag Battle #5... what a bunch of bullshit). The combination of sandbox beat 'em up and Japanese drama is just so fucking magical. I can't remember ever being so utterly charmed by a game, and when the credits finally rolled, I found out that wrestling legend Yoshiaki Fujiwara voices Kage, a revelation which would have pretty much sealed the deal all by itself!

While I highly doubt it will stick to the end of the gen with such games as The Last Story, DQ 9+10 and Xenoblade coming out. I really have enjoyed Super Robot Taisen OG Saga on the Nintendo DS

The battle system is probably the most unique I have ever played in a JRPG
The chesey names they call each other and well not fully dressed females and how they all interact is funny.
JP voice overs really add to it for me.
The art style is pretty simple and colorful.

Mostly the diversity of the world and it's components (the environments, the enemies, the weapons, the items, everything really!).

Cyrodiil is a huge world with beautiful landscapes and towns. And I just love the fact that you can buy a house in your favorite town and hang out with the villagers while listening to one of the best soundtrack this gen.

Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story.

This topic title asks you to do two things

You managed to fail at one of them

Demon's Souls - Just felt gratifying to beat stuff in that game or Oblivion/Fallout 3 for the reasons mentioned above for Oblivion :D

Unicorns ARE real - They are just fat, grey and called Rhinos

I hope it is okay to list the one I've played if it's not I'll edit it out for khuutra :P After making the list of all the RPG's I played this gen that were good I am quite happy with how many were made.

I have played Valkyria Chronicles, Demon Soul's, Dragon Age, Oblivion, Fallout 3, ME2, ME1, TWEWY, FF7: Crisis Core and FFXIII.
I would rate all of those a 9 except for ME1, Fallout 3, and oblivion. Each of these games has flaws imo, but I loved them all a whole lot.

I rate weirdly I guess for not doing .1's etc. But my favorite would have to be FFXIII. Which is probably not the most popular choice. But it's mine. But the world in it, I found intriguing and beautifully artistically and technically, with lore as well. Also, I enjoyed the battlesystem for being fast paced like the persona series. The music I thought was fantastic. The characters and the way the story unfolded I enjoyed as well, while not perfect. I still thoroughly loved the whole experience.

Did I screw up?

Due to school and other things, I've yet to finish Final Fantasy XIII, but I feel it'll challenge Valkyria for my favorite RPG of this generation.

I thought the game was so brilliant and excelled in all aspects. It had great gameplay, story, music, art, etc. I've gone on about the game enough, but I may go even deeper into later on. I love the game so much.
