Forums - Nintendo - Which system has/will have better games, Wii or Gamecube?

It's funny seeing how folks who dislike the Wii will even rally behind the Gamecube if it means a chance to go on an anti-Wii tirade.

The Wii's library absolutely DESTROYS the Gamecube library by any metric - be it first party games, 3rd party games, exclusives, etc. - and it hasn't even been out as long, so it will only improve even more.

Gamecube, easily.

I'll even go as far to say if you remove Nintendo developed games from the GC its still got a better library than the Wii has even with Nintendo games.

lol, no. I can maybe see someone arguing for GC depending on their tastes if you include Nintendo (and count retail Wii only, if you add VC/WW it's over), but 3rd party?  Wii's lineup RAPES Gamecube.  Hell, I'd say even Capcom alone already has a better Wii lineup (REmake/0/4, MH3, TVC, Okami, Z&W, MM9/10) than they did GC (REmake/0/4/2/3/CV, Viewtiful Joe 1/2/RHR, PN03, K7, CVS2, MMNT).

I think listing ports of last gen games in defence of the Wii library shows a weakness more than strength, especially when some of those ports offer no additional content.

Uh, but I also listed ports for GC with no additional content (RE2/3/CV, CVS2) and a remake (Remake)?  If you're talking purely original releases only, you've got MH3, TVC, Z&W & MM9/10 versus RE0/4, VJ1/2/RHR, PN03 K7 & MMNT.  It's closer, but the Wii lineup still wins out imo, and it still has more coming (like Basara 3).

Actually (in Europe at least) the ports of the RE games from PS1 had additional content that was otherwise only available on the Dreamcast which was from the same gen as GC.  CVX and CvS2 were the same gen too.  REmake was a brand new game, it was not a port or a tweaked port.

GC versions were still later ports.  REmake wasn't "brand new", though it was a ground up remake to the degree where I wouldn't have a problem counting it.  Of course, you could probably make the same sort of argument for Dead Rising Wii.  And honestly, the time gap between some of the Wii ports (RE4, Okami) is actually less time than CVX GC was.

Anyway, comparing made-for-the-platform "original" titles...

...and all that's with another year+ to go on the Wii side.  If we launch aligned GC would lose Killer 7, Viewtiful Joe RHR and MMX Collection.

What are these lists meant to be?  They aren't anywhere near full lists when it comes to support for either console.

On Wii I don't see anythign to compare to games like Rogue Squadron II and III, Eternal Darkness, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes and so forth.  Nevermind overlooked games like True Crime and such.  Get people fronting No More Heroes on Wii as some amazing game but I don't think its one tenth the game True Crime was, as an example.

Uh, they're lists of Capcom's games for both.  Pretty obviously I thought?  Aren't you supposed to be some huge Capcom fan or something?  You really couldn't spot the connection, even after we'd just been talking about Capcom support?

^^ But I said third party in my OP.

And didn't mention "3rd party" in your response afterward.  I thought we were talking about Capcom at that point?

wii all the way. i loved both.

I still don't get why did Gamecube got a Metal Gear and Wii doesn't.

Wii's got 2 Metal Gears... on Virtual Console.  In Japan. :P

Real answer is though, because Nintendo hasn't decided to make/pay for one yet.  That's quite literally the only reason GC got TTS.

The best selling game Snake's ever appeared in (and likely the best selling he ever will) is on Wii though.

its funny how much support Ninty gets now, I bet half these "fans" didnt even own a Gamecube. Looking at the sales between the 2 consoles, I would probably be right.

Its GC hands down, and ill tell you exactly why. Nintendo is Nintendo, there going to bring quality games no matter the platform, its indisputable. So for me it comes down to 3rd party support. Yes the WII has more, but 75% suck. Activision's deer hunter, bowling, carnival games??? I wouldnt wipe my ass with those things. GC had better 3rd party support REremake, MGS TTS, Eternal Darkness, a bunch of DC ports, and when you talk multiplat??? you guys are insane, the GC wins already, in its generation it was more powerful than PS2 so whatever multiplat games came out were definitely better than the leading console, Sonic Heroes, Soul Calibur 2, Spider-man, just to name a few. Wii hardware is weaker than the HDs so there multiplat games are ususally not as good. The GC was my 1st Ninty console so my expectations were low, im happy to say that it surpassed my expectations by far, there were times when I even put down the PS2 controller for weeks on end. that has not happened with the Wii, ive yet to find a game on that system to make to turn off my PS3 or hell my PSP.

GameCube's got Star Fox Adventures and Assault, Wii... not even a Star Fox game announced...

Pikmin 2 isn't on Wii, and it's not announced yet... (that's got me worried actually), GC has Donkey Konga 1 + 2 and DK Junglebeat, Wii has a terrible DK racing game, a port of Junglebeat which plays worse than the original, and nothing else...

GC has RE 0 and 1, and were origginally for it, Wii has them ported with NO IMPROVEMENTS. GC has a Metal Gear game which is quite good.

GC has F-Zero, and it's the very best game in the saga, Wii doesn't. GC has Megaman Annyversary and X Collection, Viewtiful Joe 1 + 2, Killer 7, Eternal Darkness, Skies of Arcadia, Baten Kaitos 1 and Origins, Tales of Symphonia, Paper Mario 2, Mario Tennis with good control, Zelda 4 Swords adventures, Master's quest and a collectors disk with 4 classic Zelda games! GC has even a Mario Dance Dance Revolution game with a special pad with Mario on it!

Both are great consoles, with awesome games. I don't understand why we have to choose only one... Well, I choose Wii, because it plays every GameCube game...

I played Pikmin 2 last night so I would beg to differ.

I'd say Wii is better than Gamecube, but it is missing a few things.
One, is Star Fox, but only the Star Fox Adventures game was good. Several teams want to make a Wii Star Fox but Nintendo isn't doing anything with the IP.

Two, is Timesplitters LOL but every console is missing that this gen.

And third, which is my personal opinion, is WWE Wrestling games. Every year from 2002 to 2005, I bought a wrestling game, and things related to it. I had Wrestlemania X8, X9, Day of Reckoning 1 & 2, Def Jam Vendetta and Fight for NY. The Smackdown games from 2007-2010 are terrible PS2 ports and the gameplay stinks on all consoles. How a Wii game can look worse than a 5 year old GC game is beyond me. It is like they fired everyone who worked on the GC games.

Other than that, Wii is much better than the Gamecube. Without those wrestling/fighting games, I would've been in a serious ass drought.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Well, it depends on how you judge the games. Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4 are my two favorite games from either console's libraries. However my favorite Wii game is Twilight Princess simply because to me that is a Wii game every bit as much as a Gamecube game as they launched simultaneously, and I consider MP and RE4 Gamecube games that came out later on Wii.
So if you're just comparing all the games from both consoles to someone who has never played them before, then yeah I could see the Wii coming out on top. It has Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime Trilogy, RE4, and better games of Smash Bros, Mario Kart, and a far better Mario with Galaxy.  Not to mention access to the entire VC library.

However to me, Prime and RE4 on the Cube are legendary; more-so than any Wii game so far. I just don't hold the ported remakes of the Wii versions in as high regard. I'd consider the best Wii games to be Twilight Princess, Galaxy, SSBB, Prime 3, MK Wii, Zack and Wiki, etc. So looking at it that way I think that, SO FAR, the Gamecube still probably has the better of the great games, for its time anyway:

Metroid Prime, RE4, Wind Waker, Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil remake (Far, far better than the PS1 original), Viewtiful Joe, F Zero GX, Rogue Leader, etc.

Gamecube was more or less PS2 Junior. It landed somewhere between irrelevant and a joke last generation.

The Wii, on the otherhand, not only has superior iterations to Gamecube's top titles; but also has NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, TG16, ports for download, as well as some very interesting original titles for download. Not to mention a large number of very unique titles that were very fresh (Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Wario Ware Smooth Moves, etc..); it was the first major console to offer great motion and IR controls. It also dominates this generation, and is the first Nintendo system in 10 years to give me a reason not to really bother with any other systems.

Like the majority of Nintendo fans before the Wii, I played their handheld systems mostly, and played PSX and PS2 for home console.
