Gays, definitely.

Hell, non-straight people (is there a better word for this? Deviant doesn't really work) in general are more discriminated against everywhere, not just in the US.

LGBTQ is used 'round these parts - stands for "Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, Queer"

Alright, thanks for that. I'm kinda curious as to why Transsexualism is in there, since you could separate gender identity and sexual orientation in their case, but meh.

I find that people (worldwide) try and justify their hatred towards homosexuals, and they are shameless in their convictions. I come across these people fairly frequently

I have seldom come across people who say they hate another race and tried to justify it; and if they do try to justify it they almost never do it as shamelessly as homophobes do.

However, both racism and homophobia exist. It's just that it is seen as "more acceptable" to be a homophobe in the public eye.

Just to drive home my point, I could easily name five or six established members on this site who have said they hate homosexuals or their behaviour, but I have only ever once seen a well established member of this site say they hate other races in the same way.

This is typical example of someone who mixes political correctness with tolerance.

People are not required to like someone and praise his way of life just because they are minority all that tolerance asks is that we  don't discriminate against them.

Haha.

Dang and blast! I've been caught out. Ok, I can admit when I'm wrong.

Fair cop.

Anyway, I do know the difference, it just hasn't come across in this post. I am aware there is a difference and with tolerance you don't have to like them, just don't discriminate against them. For now I'll chalk it up to temporary lapse of judgement or tiredness... Either that or a combined lack of attention and intelligence.

Probably the latter.

I'm having a debate with Machina about who (some, overall, NOT everyone duh) Americans tolerate the LEAST. (i.e is there more homophobia or more racism?)

Gay people or Black people.

Obviously homophobia and racism exists in all countries, but he was surprised a gay guy came 2nd in American Idol and I said it was more surprising a black man got elected president.

Uhhh Obama isn't black... he's mixed. Saying Obama's black is like ignoring the fact that he's half-white, which is racist.

Obama himself recognises himself as a black man, so I will too.

Shit well hard for me to tell. I'm from a part of the country were toleration of very little occurs. Here don't accept different races, different religions (especially if that religion isn't one such as Atheism haha), foreigners, liberals, different sexual orientations, and of course those who "take our jobs". Pretty much white, straight, conservative Christians here haha. Alright so it's not that extreme, but point being that aside from New Orleans the area is not that accepting haha. But we've gotten better over time.

I'm assuming the rest of the country (aside from some ares in the south) are a lot more accepting but it does seem being homosexual is the top thing to discriminate against nowadays. But old guards die hard and obviously still a lot of people in this country that don't like other races. But I voted for both.

Your generalizations are exagerrated and you know it. (especially being that we live in a black majority city!)

I'd say we've become far more tolerant of those things (although, they certainly are not accepted and probably never will be accepted as ok or normal).

Meh, I choose gay people in the poll.

Oh come on dude it was building on a South Park joke haha.  You have got to start watching some South Park.  But yea the south isn't as bad as people say we are, but it's also not as good as a lot of southerners won't the outsiders to think.  I do wish they'd stop taking our jobs though.

Depending on who you ask, the Q can also stand for "Questioning," for people who don't actually know their sexuality yet.  "Queer," when capitalized, is supposed to be a neutral umbrella term for everybody.  As in, you can say "the Queer rights movement," but you can't say "a bunch of queers."  They basically have reclaimed the word, the way black folks can spell that one racist word differently to make it okay just as an in-group word, and the way feminists have Bitch Magazine, but we're not supposed to call them that.

The other umbrella term that doesn't confuse people with the T and the Q (but still includes T and Q folks) is probably "non-heteronormative."

Obviously NONE of you have read the bible or now what Christians are SUPPOSED to teach. Being gay is just fine. Living the life-style is sinful.

Gosh everyone is a dumbass except me.

I'm curious as what people mean by "the life-style". Do they mean the sleeping with a lots of different guys, partying every night, drugs, alcohol? Or is having a meaningful relationship with someone of the same sex, just as a straight couple would have, considered "the life-style" too and thus sinful too?

Bold: That is frowned upon no matter what your sexual orientation thing.

Italicized: It's a sex thing. We can have a meaningful relationship but if we initiate in sex, that's wrong. Weird, I know.

Is that a proposition?

I don't know. Take it for what you will.
