I highly doubt that Iwata said that the battle with Sony has already been won. It seems very bullish and out of character for him as he usually speaks with such humility. It would be pretty foolish considering what's happened to past market leaders (including themselves).

Nintendo could never beat Apple. Apple have better marketing and essentially better products. They may not be the best in the market e.g. their pad over others, but the build quality and accessibility are second to none. Plus they don't have any geeky stigma, especially with the iphone.

We'll see after Sony cuts the PS3's price and releases the PSP2,Nintendo...we'll see.

Whoa! This new attitude changes everything! My mind is blown by how different the console environment will be in the future.

This gen is very interesting. Sony and Microsoft might lose to Nintendo in terms of sales but both HD console are very strong and they got more support from 3rd party developer as well attract more hardcore gamer. PS3 will have GT5, Move, 3D and Microsoft have Halo Reach and Natal. Unlike last gen where PS2 control more than half of marketshare for HW and SW sales and attract both casual/hardcore gamer.

Apple is a newcomer in gaming industries. Apple might not as huge as big three in this industry but there has potential to become next strong competitor. After the success of Ipod, Iphone and Ipad i dont see why they cannot be successful in gaming.

Did Nintendo ever fight §Sony this gen? It looks more like Ninty went its way, while Sony was hammering its own bollocks, at least during the first part of PS3 life.
As for Apple, it will certainly be huge also in portable gaming, but this doesn't mean it will be in direct competition with portables, there will be some overlapping of their markets, but partial. Games have been done on cellphones for some time by now, nethertheless portable market grew anyway.
