Your supposed to watch it in 3-D. In 3-D it's fantastic. Without 3-D it's still a good movie.

totally agree. Avatar is the only movie ever made that actually uses 3d to good effect. Every other movie I've seen in 3d left me feeling gipped but not this. Yeah its definitely not at the level of District 9, but it is a pretty damn good movie.

Without 3D you start to notice all just how bad the story and concepts are. So yea, it's nice to see graphically but that's it.

i saw both movie and i like avatar more.

The story doesn't take any risks and shows only tiny hints at the darkness of the human nature.
It's a bit "refreshing" or at least not bog standard to portray the humans as aggressors/invaders, but to compensate for that they made a human the big hero + happy end to make it a movie "for everyone".

So in my opinion it's a 5/10 movie with fine 3D eye candy.

Yeah, watching Avatar in 2D is a bit like Watching Wizard of Oz in black and white, it's ok, but the cinematography really offers A LOT to the story.

If Dorothy went to Oz and it wasn't in colour, then it wouldn't be any more magical than Kansas and the film would suck.
