nintendo fanboy, but the good kind

This post does have me concerned.
On the one hand, Monster Hunter Tri does look like it has better underlying gameplay than WoW or PSO. On the other hand if they do end up repetitive or boring, I will probably still end up addicted to the "progress" for a while, and I don't want that to happen.
I am talking to people in a chat room atm who are trying to convince me that your post is full of shit btw :)

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.
Thanks for your post. I wathinking about buying this game even though its not my type of game just because people said it was AMAZING but you told me that it is repetitive which I hate so... I won't buy it. You saved me $50!
I don't really consider this an RPG, more of an action adventure since the title focuses on adventuring and gathering object X + Y + Z in order to do objective A for example; also, the attacking and such is action based rather than 'role played' like in other RPGs such as Dragon Quest.
That said, I am ~20 hours in, and I love the game. I have killed only two large monsters; Qurupecos and Great Jaggi (like 15-20 of them now), but I have a lot of fun doing it. It is more fun to play online than offline, but I enjoy playing offline quite a bit.
Failure of quests isn't really that bad, you get to keep all of the items you gained.
Anyway, this game inspired me to watch Jurassic Park 1 and 3 recently; I would do 2, the cast is good in 2 (with Goldblum) but the story was not as thrilling as 1 or 3 (which are really both the same story, 3 is more fun since it has better dinos and jumps right into things where 1 takes a good 45 minutes before they get down and dirty; 3 wouldn't be as rewarding without the background of 1 though).
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

In which way? That there's barely any content in this game? The original The Legend of Zelda game has more stuff in it. This is like five dungeons without an overworld. That the game is repetitive? If you have to fight the same monsters several times for the sole sake of getting your hunter rank to get to the next set of quests, then that is repetitive. I haven't given up on this game yet, but I don't see how things changing much from here on out. |
I don't mind fighting the same monster many times as long as it stays fun. But, if it's a case of the game making me feel like I need to fight this monster so many times even if I won't particularly enjoy it, then that's a problem.

sounds sweet. It usally takes me 1 or 2 hours to determine if a game sucks. This one should be pretty good

I've found there's a funny bell curve when it comes to fighting monsters: the first few times are almost a chore, since they have so much health, the next few times are fun because you've improved enough to take them down fairly quickly, and then it goes back to being a chore because you've done this a ton of times already and, well, they still have way too much health. Worst of all, there's a ton of resource gathering to do in between fights, which involves mining minerals and picking herbs.
I like it, but it's got some serious flaws. Your opinion on it will probably be related to what you think about MMOs.
Strangely enough, I bought this game after reading this.
Pixel Art can be fun.
