Forums - Sony - How should Sony market MOVE to current and new consumers?

Look at this elitist commercial. Does this look like a company that is aiming for casuals? Especially when they express the details of what makes the Move so perfect for the core?

It is wildly obvious that Sony is trying to go after newly established moderate gamers (whom either purchased the Wii as a first time console and got hooked or re-established them), few casuals and core gamers.

I don't think Sony is going to convince too many Wii owners to jump ship with move so I think we can leave the "if you want to upgrade from Wii" angle right alone.

I think a two pronged approach. Firstly for the more casual gamers who may not have any current gen system yet, I think they need to focus on all the great Sony games (the catalogue as a whole, maybe with some readvertising of older classic titles) you can play on the PS3, "now with motion control". If people haven't yet opted for Wii, are interested in motion control, and have positive past experiences with Sony, focusing on the great games could be enough to seal the deal. I think presenting an us verus them kind of comparison with the Wii is a battle that Sony can't win in the minds of casual gamers.

For the core I think it is a little safer to promote the technological advances of Move of the Wii-mote but in the end I still think they are going to need a killer app to sell Move. A game that convinces PS3 owners or owners-to-be that Move is going to give them the control they want in the kind of game they are used to getting from Sony.

prioritise that it can do both what natal and wii can do, a lot of news I have been seeing is either one or the other and not what can be achieved together.

they should most definitely bundle it with the console, it will hopefully appeal to a wider audience, not sure if it will affect the wii audience though, wii users have a different idea of great games than what playstation gamers do.

both hardcore and casual, but hardcore first imo. its the core of the Playstation franchise start in the centre and work out, that is how Sony plays it.

Natal will be an experience all its own. Natal's camera is worlds beyond the Eye Toy, much like the move is beyond the Wii in terms of actual potential.

not really here is the things that natal has over the ps eye (oh why do people argue against the ps eye always go back to the eyetoy, there is a generational difference between the 2 camera's)

how move counters advantages -
remains natal advantage after move is added *

only new augmented feature is gesture recognition. (able to determine what you want if you point with your finger) - move should easily allow for you to point to what you want but it also has buttons -

3d depth tracking - glowing sphere used for depth and to prevent light conditions from effecting the camera. -
*full body tracking *
one step up from the eye's movement detection instead of using the pixels, alone to determine movement, it will use a ir bar to help detect movement in a given distance. - the sphere helps tracking so there about even -
*area you have to be in will adjust depending on the size of the room. *
*built in processor to do the calculations, freeing up the 360, processor. *

*some motor things for tilting the camera and for fast zoom. *

then there the advantage the move itself is.  there is probably more things natal has over the eye but many people don't seem to be aware of what the ps eye is capable of. I would appreciate it if someone would add to the list of natal advantages, I do like natal but I recon move + ps eye can do most of it

edit: was colour coded but colour doesn't seem to work once posted.

correct me if I am wrong
stop me if I am bias
I love a good civilised debate (but only if we can learn something).

1 game BETTER & MORE FUN than Wii Sports.. that's all.. but I don't think they can do it..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

I think they have to take a 2 pronged approach.
1. Aim it for casual players. Bring out games like Wii sports make it fun for alll the family. Advertise it as a blu-ray player too (as they do), free internet gaming etc. These extra features will possibly persuade casual players to get it over the Wii. They could bundle it with the latest kids movie on BD too.

2. For hardcore gamers they need to convince people that its a better experience playing with move than a standard controller. They would need to bring out games that utilise the move within hardcore games that cannot be performed with dualshock.

I personally dont believe that it'll work or appeal for hardcore gamers/games. When i play I might play up to 5-6 hours at a time. I wouldn't play that long standing up and moving around, I'd probably switch back to the Dualshock. Might get the move for Tiger Woods though...

This is not an exit.

In before Kevin Butler ad saying that the Move is the most accurate motion controller ever.

Have Kevin Butler say mean things about the competition, because if you put one of these , it's not trolling.

40% of Wii 'casuals' own a balance board.

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

Sony needs to get the hardcore support first, because they will always be there.

Casual stuff will mostly be handled by 3rd parties.

For it to be a success Sony must get Socom 4, Heavy Rain and LittleBigPlanet right.
Plus the new stuff like Motion Fighter must be better than decent.

1. market it to the masses emphasizing on move party and sports games as well as its multimedia capabilites ie bd player.

2. market it to gamers with families with children.
