Oblivion has the best leveling system in an RPG ever.

It has the best item management system.

It has the best skillsets.

It has the best spellacsting system (Although the spells were kinda lame)

It has the best implementation of havoc and ragdoll physics in a game ever!

It has the best setting of a game ever (Classic fantasy)

It had the most fun questing in an RPG ever

And it was all ruined bu one of the worst ideas in RPG history. Enemies level up at the same pace as me? B U L L S H I T ! ! ! ! !

I Want to one-hit lowly peasants with my poisoned arrows. I want to mow down weaker enemies that I used to have problems with. WTF Bethestda?! You ruined the potentially best game ever made!

If you get the game on PC mods can fix that problem.

And best implementation of Havok & ragdoll physics? I think you should play Half-Life 2 or Mirror's Edge PC with PhysX turned on.

Half Life 2, I forgot about that game. But still, the way that the physics brought life to the fantasy world was absolutley amazing.

People really made a mod to fix that? Awesome, having a weak PC for so long and playing most games on my 360 for a while made me forget the awesome modding powers of the PC :D

I gotta buy it then. I need to own the best single player RPG ever made.

I LOVE ICELAND!

The mods for Oblivion (and all of Bethesda's recent RPGs actually) are amazing. I think they've added about 100 hrs to my main game. The stuff modders have been able to acheive is amazing. And if you liked the spells in the original then you should see hte Midas Magic mod. Adds all sorts of spells from lots of different sources.

I liked Oblivion but had some things i didnt like, mainly the leveling system amd the combat. I think the following games are all better than oblivion

Fallout 3
Valkyria Chronicles (SRPG is still and RPG)
Final Fantasy XIII
Dragon Age (only played a little but liked it better than oblivion)

Sounds awesome. When I get Oblivion for PC, I will definately look for the mods.

Oh oh, here I come. I have a different opinion from the guy who wrote the article.

I tried to play Oblivion, I seriously did... but I don't see the appeal from this game at all. The world is so dull, but the real thing I hate is how everything is just so shiny because of the Unreal Engine. The characters are very ugly too, I mean all of them, and the same voice actors voicing every single NPC in the game breaks immersion. I'm always like "Wait, I talked to that guy befo... oh wait, no, it's just the same voice actor again!" I guess the music is OK... very Bethesda and fantasy like though.

Also, how long is the main quest? 5-6 hours if you set the battle difficulty to medium (if I recall correctly). Then... what's next? You do sidequests just to get pieces of armor and weapons that you won't even be able to use in Elder Scrolls V anyways? What can you do with overpowered equipment if you can't even show them off online or something. I mean, what's the point?

I must say I'm not a fan of fantasy and the medieval time that much in the first place, but I must also say that I had no trouble playing Dragon Age: Origins. I seriously wonder why. o_O

With that said, an Elder Scrolls online could be great and there would actually be a reason to play the game. Also, I would be willing to try the game again, but on PC this time around. There must be a way to turn off the shiny-ness in the .ini files and mods could probably change the character models and some of the environments.

Oblivion doesn't use the Unreal Engine. It's got Gamebryo, an open-world game engine. And I love the HDR in Oblivion!

Hmmm... You are right. Still, it's pretty ugly. ;)

I believe they used the same engine for Fallout 3 then? I turned off the specular pass in that game. Before, with this on and HDR, it was even worse! I mean dry rocks aren't supposed to be shiny, or even trees (or remains of trees at least)!

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

I really enjoyed the game when is came out but I really disagree. There were three RPGs in 2008 alone that were much better.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Check out MyAnimeList and my Game Collection. Owner of the 5 millionth post.

Demon's Souls wipes the floor with this game IMO, and even then there's better games. It's best played with all the mods.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

I think it was amazing, but i didn't try it on consoles.
200 hours of my life wasted on one game is something.

You're forgetting the genetically modified radioactively shiny sheep :P
