I lol at the close mindedness of people. Oh no it's a new way of gaming, can't have that and you wonder why game companys put out the same stuff year after year.

Closed mindedness, what are you talking about?  Nothing natal has shown us has been anything new.  The only thing Natal has brought to the table is a whole lot of talk and a ball ricochet game that the eye toy could have done 6 years ago.  You can't blame people for being skeptical when companies, Microsoft especially, are notorious for overhyping and overpromising their products.  If it turns out that Natal is as good as they say it is then I will happily eat my words; but don't bet on it because if it was as great as they're promising we would have seen a lot more on it by now.

actually natal has brought a few new features to the table to be fair. there was another thread that was looking what the differences was between the ps eye and natal. I wrote a list up for it but its a bit long so I will just leave what new.

only new augmented feature is gesture recognition. (able to determine what you want if you point with your finger)

3d depth tracking
full body tracking
one step up from the eye's movement detection instead of using the pixels, alone to determine movement, it will use a ir bar to help detect movement in a given distance.
area you have to be in will adjust depending on the size of the room.
built in processor to do the calculations, freeing up the 360, processor.
some motor things for tilting the camera and for fast zoom

so like I said some new features for the tech that shouldn't really be overlooked. of course imo most of these features are meaningless one you add in the move.

Yeah I know all that.  But I'm not talking about what it can do; I'm talking about what it does.  So far all we have seen is the ball ricochet thing.  And the PSeye could play that game I'm sure of it.

No , not really. I hate the whole concept. I'm more hyped about move because it actually has games. GT5 , Killzone 3. That are some big hitters. I don't want to feed some retarded looking virtual pet. I can see kids playing it. But they all have Wii's. Also it's very hard to reach that audience. They don't google around to see some new gaming tech.

But I've got to admit , Microsoft does now how to hype things. 'The new way of gaming' ' Innovating control of you TV'. I don't see what could be easier to control my TV with , than with the remote. Only thing you have to do is pull your finger up , and push on a button.

MS also said it's for the HC's. But I haven't seen ANY hardcore games yet for Natal/Kinecht what ever.I also do think it won't be very attractive for parent's. Standing in the shop seeing :

-Wii combo with Wii Sports and some Mario game

-Ps3 with Move combo

-Ps3 combo with Uncharted 2 (Drake climbing a train)

-Xbox 360 pack with Kinect

-Xbox 360 pack with Marcus clising a Locust in half with blood everywhere.

I think they will go for the Wii...

But back to the actual question :

No not at all. I don't see anything really new to it or something that changes the way I control my TV/Media center/PC/Games.  For what it does , it's to expensive and the lack of games is the worst thing. That you can't play it while sitting on your couch sucks to. I'm playing games to relax. Not to jump around in front of my TV to get into the next menu or start the movie.

i still have my eye toy.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

As much as i like my Playstation and try to support Sony, if they had come up with Kinect i would stand up and shout from the top of my Lungs: "i don't want THAT"

Really i believe that there are many 360 owners who think the same, but still support and defend it, because it's the thing to do in this "Console War" that brought us arguments like: "our casuals have more fun"

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

No. Not yet.

I'm exactly the sort of person the Kinect should attract. I'm a father with two young kids and a wife who likes to play games. A nuclear family. We wanted to like the Wii, but didn't for many reasons I've discussed elsewhere, so I'm sure Microsoft would like us to look at Kinect as the next logical step. An HD Wii with good connectability would be awesome, after all. So, does Kinect do this?

I think looking at the Harry Potter Kinect sequence versus the Sorcery game answers the question. Kinect doesn't do what I want, Move does. In essence, Move can do pretty much everything Wii can do, and pretty much everything Kinect can do, giving us the best of both worlds, making Kinect look a very poor choice, especially for the money involved. Perhaps a killer app will arrive that makes Kinect stand out, but it hasn't happened yet. Everything significant that Kinect offers can be found on another platform, and so far I'm not impressed. Wii got there first, and did it well, but at low res and with farcical online features. Sony are following, and attempting to provide everything Wii has successfully introduced, plus more. Microsoft, by comparison, will not match Wii in terms of control, thus falling behind both Nintendo's and Sony's attempt, and, worse, don't seem to have enough unique features to make this loss of functionality justifiable.

As it stands, I'm hugely unconvinced, especially as I don't have all that much space in my house for massive failings and jumpings.

I want a machine that delivers a solid 4-player experience for all the family, with games targetting all of us -- ranging from hard core for me to very casual for my kids --, with free online IDs for all of us, and I want ease of control and use with a bunch of funky extras. Kinect, so far, fails to provide this. Wii and PS3 both succeed, or so it seems, although Wii is sub-HD and has terrible online functions. Thus, so far, PS3 is the best option for us.

Still, I'm open to Microsoft changing my mind. I have no particular like or dislike for any of the companies. I simply buy what's best for me and my family. Kinect, no matter if it works or not, if a single game is fun or not, is nowhere near what my family is looking for as it currently stands.

Not yet. I believe this technology will ultimately be the succesor of motion gaming (instead of a wiimote or move). Kinect is probably too early released for it's time. Some games are way better than the competition like for example dance central.

I'm actually more interested in collective intelligence and voice recognition. But this has to evolve, before it gets any good.

I'll wait for next-gen. Same goes for 3D BTW.

The question isnt, is it a new way of gaming. The question is, is it a fun and workable way of gaming with the current technology. Everyone will have a different answer to this, at the moment, its understandable why some find it unappealing. Your the one being close minded here.

I own both a PS3 and a 360, and am NOT interested in Kinect at all. Sure its innovative and has a lot of potential, BUT the games dont look fun at all.  I know its not aimed at the hardcore gamer, but it would make sense to at least show something to the customers that made the 360 a success.

Every 360 owner that I know just either laugh or roll their eyes when the subject of Kinect comes up.  I am not saying it wont be a success, I just dont know anyone who wants one.  MS is taking a huge gamble on this thing. I just hope it pays off for them and doesnt ruin gaming as we know it.

  Tifa got MOVES!

No. I'm not a fan of motion controls anyway so I doubt I'll even be getting the PS move. If I end up getting a 360 eventually, it will be because of the great games available for that console.

Biggest problem is time constraints. It's hard enough to juggle my PS3, PC and psp without adding another console.

Well , I'm not. I don't see any way how to play a shooter or racing game with Kinect. Since I don't like , rather hate , party games I won't buy it. Neither I will buy Move.
