Forums - Nintendo - What kind of review is this?!?!

There's no sense of beauty at all? Really?

I must have played the wrong game!

My friend is an idiot. He kept playing Tetris because I told him there was an endboss.

I read his review. Is it biased? Sure, depends on how you look at it. Can I understand some of his feelings about certain aspects of the game? Definitely. Example. Would SMG have looked better on a machine with the horsepower of the 360 or PS3. ABSOLUTELY. Was it MADE on those systems? NO, so there's no need to compare apples to oranges. People have already stated compare them to games that are ON the Wii, not ON other consoles, and they're absolutely correct. It's like comparing different versions of a Honda Civic to a damn Mercedes. You just CAN'T do that when the cars are SOOO much different but have their own way of doing things.

Do I agree with his assertion that it could have been made to look more stunning? No. There's art and then there's ART. SMG is ART. VEEERY beautiful. It's simplistic, but still gorgeous at the same time. There's not too much going on which would take away from the gameplay with needless distractions.

The Wii-mote shake. I do agree with that. I think it's rather gimmicky, but it's how the controls were used. I also agree with him about a Wii games NEEDING the wiimote to be used in some way in it. WHY? There's two ways a game for the Wii and DS should be made. Absolutely requiring the Stylus or Wiimote, for pointing, running, shooting, whatever or leaving it optional. Let the player decide which way they'd like to try. I believe the wiimote functionality in SMG works just fine, I have no issues doing a little shake to get into a star or to spin.

The last part I'll comment on is the dialogue boxes. I'm sorry, but there's a little thing called "platformers" where you kind've have to EXPECT things to be the same, which is what make the game. Boohoo if you don't like reading "stupid out-dated" dialogue boxes. Does that REALLY change the game THAT much for you?

In closing, I'm enjoying SMG. It is a very fun game my wife and I play, and she's my star bit collector. I hate speed runs :/

yeah according to the review we must pf played different games

I wonder if Sony fans would be accused of defensiveness, if someone reviewed R&C Tools, claiming it was a choppy and uncontrollable as Lair. Only the most hardcore bashers wouldn't side with them in attacking such a bull5hit review. This seems to be the case with SMG, and those calling them biased seem to be the real biased ones, rather than reading the review linked.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

although i think 7/10 is harsh, the title has a lot of truth in it. It just isn't the second best game of all time.

You're right, its the best, bar none

I've played it, and I gotta say, the game is pretty much perfect in every way

Nice, someone doesn't like a Wii game = instantly biasED (its bi-as-ed, not bias). Anyways give me a break. I haven't played SMG, but I asked for it for Christmas, I'll comment on it when I play it. But not everyone who doesn't like SMG is biased!!!

Why is it that every review that isn't glowing for SMG is "biased"? Maybe he just didn't like the game? I'm not defending him, I'm defending anyone that gave the game a 8.9 or below. They may not have had the fun that anyone personally has had with the game. Some people really liked HS even though it was panned, and some games like Z&W are critically loved but not bought. It may just be that he doesn't like the game. Just saying

when someone says it looks like a game from 2001, you know they are baised, when they say that they hate that the game uses dialogue boxes you know there is bias (not every game should have VA), you guys need to take off your fanboy goggles

This guy should join 1UP, they are always looking for talented, professional and unbiased reviewers like him.
Okay, that was unecessary. 1UP is not as bias as this jerkoff from CNet. They gave Galaxy a 9.5 out of 10. (oh and by the way, Trauma Center sucks anyways so it deserved that 5). This guy was saying Galaxy flat out sucked. 1UP knows good games from bad games. I trust their reviews because they gave Battalion Wars for GameCube a 6.5 out of 10 and I bought it. I felt ripped off because I thought that it would be better than what they said. It wasn't. Since then (September 2005 for those of you who don't remember), I have trusted EGM/1UP 100% because of that incident. Snesboy

You know it's a biased review when he goes and bashes the wiimote, saying it's only good for mini-games. If someone gave a PS3 shooter poor marks because 'the wiimote is way better for aiming than dual analog', that would be a biased review in the same way this is.

And that it lacks beauty?? WHAT?!?!? It's absolutely gorgeous artistically, and pretty good technically, too.

I have a feeling that him saying he's been playing through it for a week means he got the first ten stars and came to the opinion he was already planning on coming to from the beginning. He had a pre-concieved notion (that the game was overrated), he clearly didn't play nearly the entire game, and he was just looking for reasons to back up his pre-concieved notions about the game.

What a hack.

Well, I'm glad that at least I am not the only one who thought this review was crazy...
