Best story? Half-Life...by far!

Xenogears for me hands down.

But it doesn't come close to reading books of the aforementioned authors... Asimov, Herbert, Niven (anyone read Footfall?) , Orson Scott Card, Bradbury. Top of the bill! And that's just the top...

Glad to see people are still reading books... I used to have a book thread. I wonder what happened to it :/

Don't forget Asimov's "Foundation" series, they are amazing.

Uhm, really? I mean, I love the Good Doctor as much as the next geek. But the first three novels I like for pure nostalgia, and by the end of the whole robot-empire crossovers and prequels we had a convoluted mess. Again, I love them, I just don't think they're good :)

I wave my hand in the general direction of anything by Greg Egan if you're into hard SF, anyway. Plus the obvious Bradbury and Dick and Sheckley and Clarke for great imagery, satire and haunting intuitions.

Back to thread:

Grim Fandango, Shadow of the Colossus, Psychonauts.

Still playing Planescape: Torment. So far so good.

It's an age thing most probably...

what do you mean by that? do you mean that the thread got old, or young people don't read books, or young people read books? I mean I am 19 and I love a good book, I have read books all my life my dad used to think I read to much until I started playing a lot of games and he decided I was doing that to much lol.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

Could I count Bioware rpgs as franchise in spirit? I have loved most of them.

Final Fantasy 7

That games story stands out the most to me.

I've played Mass Effect, seen the Matrix, read War of the Worlds (and seen every version of the movie), seen Terminator 1+2, and seen all the Star Wars movies.

I'd say that that's enough to state that HL2 is the the best outside of Ender's Game.

P.S. I actually own Ender's Shadow and Shadow of the Hegemon, but haven't read either of them. Criminal, I know.

not until you have read the Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, Dune and one of the culture novels (the only one I have read is Use of Weapons and that was great I would love to read the others) as for enders shadow I found it to be better written but maybe not as memorable as Enders game. You could also add Day of the Triffids, Ring World and Do androids dream of electronic sheep to the list lol    Star Wars the Matrix (Neromancer was what it was inspired by but is very different) and the Terminator movies were some of the weaker entries on the list BTW and War of the Worlds probably is to but I liked it.

I'd say the first four Dune novels. God Emperor of Dune is my favorite single science fiction book, containing one of the bestest characters ever.

Really now? I've been told by friends that it's not worth it past the first book, which I've read. Isn't there a lot of retconning once you get past the first one?

No. I guess there might be retconning if you read the Brian Herbert novels, but I usually just fork the evil eye a those bad boys.

My brother is the only one I know who's red Heretics and Chapterhouse, though, and he says it's not worth reading after God Emperor.

God Emperor, though, is just.... awesome. Phenomenal.
