Forums - Sales - Final Fantasy XIII is a MAJOR flop on the 360 - we need to talk about it

I think the game will have huge legs though, just compare the 360 boxart to the PS3 one.

FF: CB was a flop too.

No its not. Everyone knows big budget Wii games only cost like $100 to develop. Another $50 to produce and like $5 for advertising.

I disagree.

Final Fantasy XIII on the 360 has already outsold a huge JRPG franchise on the PS3 - Valkyria Chronicles.

It blew past the PS3's other big exclusive JRPG, White Knight Chronicles.

If anything, this proves that Square Enix should make Final Fantasy Versus XIII an Xbox 360 exclusive in the West. Just because Microsoft are willing to advertise the game for them, while we see Sony persuing other goals, like copying Nintendo. When the time comes for Versus XIII to be released in the West, Sony wont care about it because GT5 will also be releasing in the same Summer of '11. Microsoft will show love for the franchise. Love that Sony never could.

Agito XIII will also be a Zune HD Exclusive.

You cannot deny my irrefutable factual evidence.

lol so square should abandon their main market? lets face it? without the ps3, none of their games would sell.

Is this another Rol joke thread that makes no sense?

And frankly, FFXIII is doing a lot better outside of Japan than I thought it would. But that's probably because of the media blitz and hype. Still, its not doing as well as even previous FF games.

Considering the userbase difference, the PS3 version alone is performing quite well. Factor in the 360's sales and it's doing better than XII.

Well, considering even the overtracking, FFXIII is still about a million below FFXII.  And a large part of that is due to a lack of sales in Japan, its core audience.  FFXIII is currently looking at 1.90m in Japan while FFXII pulled 2.42m in Japan.  Not so hot for a game that was consistently either #1 or #2 on all the 'most wanted' lists for years in Japan.  Most likely the PS3s smaller userbase and the handheld dominance is affecting sales for the game more than people realize.

This isn't even considering the western numbers, which are also overtracked and not in favor of FFXIII.  FFXIII is coming up at least a million, if not much more behind FFXII at this time.  And it doesn't look like its going to make up much ground.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Or the fact that the game just isn't very good is affecting sales. This is the worst-reviewed FF in modern memory for a reason.

Totally wasn't worth the one year delay for the PS3 version, which would have come out much sooner, had exclusive hype, and would have had much more impressive graphics compared to other games at the time of release.

And the team that ported it to 360 could then have been working on XIV or VS that much quicker, getting those games out earlier than they will now be released.

That is to say, it wasn't worth the delay if SE didn't get a big payment from MS.  But they did.

Who knows what Squenix will do for FFXV. I find it hard to believe that they haven't already begun developing it. The relatively poor sales of XIII, combined with the critical drubbing it's taken pretty much everywhere, have surely put the fear of God in whichever team it is that's tasked with developing it, though.

Without 360 sales, FF wouldn't have broke a million in the US.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

Difficult to say. Depends, I think, on whether these rumors of XIII's linearity/lack of cities being due to the 360's storage constraints are true or not. I really have no way of evaluating them, but I do think that XIII would probably be selling better if it hadn't jettisoned so much of the RPG trappings that people actually like.
