If we are doing a separate thread on each debate I wonder if next time a poll can be included to see who people of VGChartz want to win or perhaps seeing who we thought won?

I think we're almost unanimous in saying that Clegg won that debate.

As for who I want to win... still David Cameron, as much as he's trying to convince me otherwise.

I agree with you fully on Clegg winning. I also want Cameron to win even if he didn't deserve to today.

However my point was maybe we could have a different thread for the next two debates (SkyNews) (BBCNews) allowing us to decide each debate individually rather than mashing them all together.

To me politics is failing, the main three anyway. Although Clegg had a good 90mins today. Don't be suprised if "other" parties get yet higher results than previous years. I wouldn't be suprised if one of them breaches 1 million again...

UKIP could break 1 million if they're extremely lucky, coupled with an increased turnout which should be expected for a 'close' election. None of the others can come close to 1 million though. The electoral system prevents any major paradigm shift - nothing much will change, the 2.5 party system is going nowhere ;)

They are who I would vote for if I could. However, I was more refering to the protest vote (BNP) which hit 943,598 votes last time around.

YES!!

Cameron: Cut MP's by 10%. wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to many MP's now.

Clegg: Allow constituents to sack MP's.... like that too

Brown: eff all. Apart from the same old house of lords red herring, everyone is going to look at this gordon. Brown has had 13 years to sort out the H of L and hasnt... why hasnt he?

To be fair he has only been PM for a couple of years and this is his first manifesto... I know he was in the government, but he didn't make the final decisions. Now he does.

It was an okay debate. Of course, Brown appears to have the hardest job, but only Clegg came out winning really. Brown probably has stabilised not sure about Cameron, probably slipped a bit I think. How any of you think Cameron is someone you want to win is beyond me. They are not offering anything of any substance whatsoever. Political leaders don't mess up a country either. It's so easy to scapegoat Brown or Thatcher or Blair for systemic faults. I remember the last Conservative government and they were scapegoated as well, but saying a type of Thatcherism is needed is insane - 4 recessions in 18 years, unemployment approaching 4 million and a weakened and underfunded NHS, school system, police force and so on. This was not only their work, of course, but the point remains that this other lot will still merely be tinkering rather than offering any substantial change.

I do have to point out that immigration has started to slow down and that will continue if our economy remains weak so Brown is not bullshitting on that one.

I tried to write a live update to my site as the evening went on. I'll try to do it again next time. If you want to see the results of my efforts to complete one story every fifteen minutes have a look here:

Also as it seems we are going to a hung parliament, why does everyone assume that the Liberal Democrats will choose the Labour Party over the Conservatives?

I watched it...

Clegg won.

Cameron a close second.

Brown... Was nothing like the leader we need right now.

I'm actually embarrassed he is our leader.

Brown could have given a speech as inspiring as Martin Luther King's 'I have a dream' and you two would have said exactly the same thing.

I can't see how Cameron was a close second to Clegg. Clegg won it by a mile as the polls have suggested. Cameron was annoying as usual and Brown isn't the best at this sort of thing but at least he has substance (unlike Cameron). Brown shouldn't have smirked while the others were speaking and should have cut out the jokes (although I loved the Lord Ashcroft one).

And at no point did Cameron say he wanted a fully elected House of Lords. He said he would cut the number of MP in the two houses by 10%.

Under a proportional voting system for the 2009 European Parliament Elections. The two elections are completely incomparable (unfortunately, because it would be great to see UKIP in second place for a General Election, but it ain't gonna happen :P ). 'Last time' the BNP actually got under 200,000 votes.

If Conservatives had followed up their promise of avoiding Europe then UKIP and Conservatives would ahve virtually being the same party! Also 200,000 people is alot, they will likely be in the top 5 parties and have a seat or two. Certainly in my area they are very popular.

Did you really use Brown and inspiring in the same sentence? The contrasts are throwing me into job and death taxes...

I don't give a crap about what the polls showed. Aren't i allowed my OWN opinion on how it went down and what i thought?

And as for the bolded. He was smirking, joking and lying his way through the entire thing... That isn't the type of leader this country needs at this moment in time. He spent half of his talking time trying to put down the Conservatives and bumlick the Lib Dems instead of talking about his own parties policies.
