Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Pachter: Slim 360, Natal and 250GB HDD to be bundled for $299

It's everyone's fave market analyst:

Slim 360, Natal and 250GB HDD to be bundled for $299

Microsoft is likely to offer a new Xbox 360 slim model, 250 GB hard-drive and motion controller Project Natal in a hardware bundle for $299 by the end of the year.

That's according to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter, who also suggested that should Microsoft lose significant market share to Sony in 2010, it could cut the price of the current Xbox 360 before the end of the summer.

"At a minimum, we anticipate the introduction of a more feature-packed Xbox 360 as the standard SKU in late 2010 (likely with a 250GB hard drive) at the same $299 price point, and think that Microsoft will cut price before the fall only if it begins to lose significant market share to Sony," Pachter told investors.

"It is far more likely that we will see a slim version of the Xbox 360 with a 250 GB hard drive and with Project Natal bundled into the box while maintaining the $299 price point, especially if Sony does not lower the price of the PS3 by the time Natal and Sony’s Move controllers launch in the fall."

A slim Xbox 360 is currently only a rumour, although images currently doing the rounds are offering a convincing argument for a new model console from Microsoft.

I actually think he actually makes some sense with this one.

If that is true it will be 360 ownage for the holidays in North America. People like to buy things with the word "slim" on it.

But its Pachter so they will prolly not release Natal at all, and 360 wil double in size.

M$ have to do this when Natal Releases. Not only will it help Natal become very mainstream, it will likely double WW sales if not more. PS3 has had a good run with Slim model, the minute 360 introduces Natal with a Slim it's a distant easy 2nd for M$.

I will buy this eventually. It's going to be great!!

Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"

nobody ever charges for dreaming, but I wonder if he charges for these predictions? I'd say the $299 bundle is a reality waiting to happen...not sure if the HDD would be 250GB in that one though. A PS3 Move bundle for $299 is also a reality waiting to happen. And a 360 slim? I really don't see it, unless they want to make it look like the "Natal" (or whatever the final name will be) is a whole new console.

Anyone else think that if this happens it'll be announced at E3? They said they were prepping for a big one.

Slim is an easy code word for valhalla 360s.  There is 100% certainty that a 360 revision at least matching the valhalla specs will be released.  Given the timing, I would expect that valhalla will be exceeded.

A slim is nearly 100% certainty already given the leaks and the building evidence from MS itself.

A PS3 Move bundle for $299 is not even close to the realm of possibility unless Sony wishes to take another $80+ loss per console sold again.  I predict a PS3 Move bundle would be $349 to $399.

With the huge cost savings MS has racked up and with the cost savings from the Slim, the combined CPU/GPU, etc. they should easily be able to bundle in Natal with a Slim 360 and 250GB HDD at $299.  In fact, since Natal is rumored to be around $50-80 there may be room to release the bundle at $249 rather than $299.

I expect either is likely.  MS may release a $299 bundle first, with a $199 Arcade + Natal bundle and then if momentum hasn't shifted quite enough for them they will cut down to $149/249 just in time for the holiday huge rush.
