So, you defend this "research" w/o knowing how it was done and then call us trolling even the percentage look way off?

Comparing that with vgc stats is totally off, too.
VGC equations are based on factual data and using that to make guesstimate.
And we all know people are totally honest when to do their multiple choice survey.

you have no basis to say that it's wrong.

@everyone else, how do people point and criticize things without even realize they are doing the very same thing they are criticizing?

I think the main problem of this statistics might be, not that it is, but might be is that the the sample base are biased gamers. Also honestly speaking statistics about purchasing decisions in gaming typically aren't the most reliable. In general, I don't trust any purchasing decision data, unless the sample is stated.

Also your last comment doesn't necessarily make sense to me.

After a quick look through of their past research, they don't seem all that reliable.

GamePlan predicted that there would be a shift of MW owners on 360 to purchase MW2 on PS3 instead. Implying higher sales for the PS3 version of MW2 than what actually happened. In fact the ratio seems to have remained the same or even grown in 360's favor for MW2 sales between the 2 consoles.

I can't believe I'm wasting my time doing this, but here goes...

I'm not sure exactly what comparison you are making, but not a single one indicates any growth in the 360's favor.

Call of Duty 4 360/PS3
First Week:    70%/30%
LTD:               62%/38%

World at War
First Week:    64%/36%
LTD:               61.5%/38.5%

Modern Warfare 2
First Week:    60.3%/39.7%
LTD:               57.7%/42.3%
Last Week:    52.3%/47.7%

Wow, I guess that's what I get by not checking my arguments.  I knew that both versions overall have sold about the same number more.  MW2 (360) has sold about 2 million more than MW (360) and same with the PS3 versions.  I guess that was my bad to not realize my mistake that percentages were going to be vastly different even if overall their growth in pure numbers was the same.

He's attacking something w/o knowing how it was done, and question why I'm defending something w/o knowing how it was done.

I said it before, I'm not defending it, I'm just saying that there is no basis to attack it, just because they don't want to give away the secrets of how they collect data.

Oxymoron much?

People aren't allow to disagree with "research" anymore?

wow do you know what an oxymoron is?

maybe you're referring to hypocrisy, which is what I described.

anyway, the comparison to vgc was that vgc doesn't say how it tracks things either, but it is funny that you support this site, whereas you attack another for the same behavior.

Oxymoron

a figure of speech by which a locution produces an incongruous, seemingly self-contradictory effect, as in “cruel kindness” or “to make haste slowly.”

Hypocrisy

1. a pretense of having a virtuous character, moral or religious beliefs or principles, etc., that one does not really possess.
2. a pretense of having some desirable or publicly approved attitude.
3. an act or instance of hypocrisy.

You prefer hypocrisy over oxymoron? I think oxymoron sounds better, though.

Do you honestly think GT5 will sell 5-6M consoles all by itself? I have no doubt that GT5 will be great, but throwing out a random number...

And I wasn't attacking it specifically, just general flawed statistic that I mock when I see it.

an oxymoron is self-contradictory in itself, whereas  "Hypocrisy is the act of persistently professing beliefs, opinions, virtues, feelings, qualities, or standards that are inconsistent with one's actions." You are professing a belief that is inconsistent with your actions.

Generally speaking oxymorons are noun-clusters that SEEM to contrast in meaning, as per your examples above. It is self explanatory per the word "locution" being used in the definition. But this is an argument for a different day.

It never said 5-6 m, and I totally explained above what this study more likely says. You took what they said, expected it to mean some outrageous proposal, and then mocked it, even though what you're really mocking is your own assumptions.

And yes, you were attacking it, and still are, by calling it flawed statistic. Like I said, I'm not defending it, I'm questioning your logic of attacking something without evidence. The only evidence you seem to be drawing from is a) lack of evidence, and b) thematic industry spin.

nightsurge and r505 do have a good ground to doub the study though based on how it is presented. They didn't really crticize it but rather stated why they need more details on the study in order to take the result seriously.

A very simple question was brought up on how many gamers out of 1000 surveyed plan to buy GT5. Without that number, no one can really make sense of the 39%.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

I am wondering how much gamers(in percent) who are planning to buy halo reach don't own a 360 yet.

i think zero.-.-.they are already 3 Halos on the 360....so people who play Halo already bought it and dont wait till Reach...and in GT5/Sonys case its the first full GT game on the PS3...and that will be big...
