Well hokotu isn't getting 1 million so do you think the publisher will be disappointed?

It is rare for games to get 1 million for HD consoles in Japan....I think only one title has done it so far. I think it was some JRPG...which is always second bananas to Pokemon!

Don't forget that PS3 has had, what two price drops in Japan to get to this level? The Wii baseline is partially based on the 20,000 Yen price point.

Don't forget a major redesign/rebranding, multiple colors and hardware bundles for like every semi-big game.  Wii and 360 have done the latter two as well, but not near to the same degree.  Sony really does EVERYTHING they can to get the collectors to keep dipping...

Don't forget the fact the Wii is $100 cheaper than the PS3 in japan

True, but Japan's also the least historically price sensitive territory.  PS2 sold dramatically better at comparable and higher pricepoints than PS3 has, and that gets even more aggravated when you adjust for inflation.  DS has far outpaced GBA at higher pricepoints too, same for Wii and GameCube.

Price hasn't been PS3's issue in Japan for the most part, it's was more a debilitating factor in the west.

Really? So your telling me had hte PS3 still been $600 it would sell 5Million consoles from launch to today

Well, no.  What I'm telling you is if it was priced exactly like PS2, it still wouldn't have sold as well as PS2.  And really, it hasn't even been that much more expensive than PS2.  The farthest they were apart was at launch, which inflation adjusted for today was $540 for PS2 and $576 for PS3.  You're looking at a less than $50 price difference in real world money, pricepoint was NOT PS3's issue in Japan...

Good opener for a few titles this week. Nothing spectacular as we have had in the past 2 weeks on the PS3, but still strong. Will be interesting to see hardware sales as PS3 comes off those 2 big releases.

And man there are a lot of "silly" posts in this thread but I guess I'm starting to get used to that when it comes to the Japan sales. You know I am fine with people getting passionate about things, but don't do it in sales thread. This is not the place for your damage control and members who are simply coming in here for the numbers and a legitimate analysis would appreciate that you don't either.

PS3's main problem in Japan was the size.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

[NDS] Etrian Odyssey 3 - 96k
[PS3] Hokuto Musou - 82k
[PS3] Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2010 - 78k
[PSP] Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2010 - 66k
[PSP] Dead or Alive Paradise - 33k
[PS3] Yakuza 4 - 32k
[PS2] Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2010 - 23k
[NDS] Nicola Kanshuu - 19k

Leaked numbers..
Hokuto doing Yakuza 4 like numbers.. so it should do around 550 - 600k, which is wot is expected of Yakuza 4 also.
NSMB Wii still doing strong numbers

Are this numbers from Famitsu or MC??? Because for Famitsu Yakuza sold more than Dead or Alive Paradise.

We got MC, so they have to be Famitsu (or Denegeki, lol).  PYS 2010 is so much higher than MC though, I think they might be fake. :/

1st week comparisons (to Famitsu)...

  • [DS] Etrian Odyssey: 31,702
  • [DS] Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard: 85,555
  • [DS] Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey: 90,830
  • [DS] Etrian Odyssey III: Call of the Sea: 96,000

I'm so impressed with Wii numbers. Abysmal Q1 "line-up" and maintains a baseline of 30k.

People knew what the hell they were talkin' about when they said NSMBWii alone could carry the Wii in Q1. I feel foolish to have doubted that.

that and the combination of a slight price cut, helped it settle at this level. Nintendo is doing amazingly well.

The price cut didn't really do too much initially and sales really spiked when NSMBWii released.

So I think this has way more to do with NSMBWii actually... less so to the price cut.
