Don't forget that PS3 has had, what two price drops in Japan to get to this level? The Wii baseline is partially based on the 20,000 Yen price point.

Nintendo Defense Force is back!

Oh gasp, thats The Source.. whatever

NDF!

We need rebalance, that's all.  The Sonycorps have overrun the forum (check like ANY poll, lol), and Xbots are practically an endangered species. :(

Don't forget a major redesign/rebranding, multiple colors and hardware bundles for like every semi-big game.  Wii and 360 have done the latter two as well, but not near to the same degree.  Sony really does EVERYTHING they can to get the collectors to keep dipping...

Don't forget the fact the Wii is $100 cheaper than the PS3 in japan

I wasn't really knocking the PS3 - my post was more in response to the claim that it was only NSMB Wii. PS3 / Wii baselines are up because of price points and the games. It isn't one or the other.

True, but Japan's also the least historically price sensitive territory.  PS2 sold dramatically better at comparable and higher pricepoints than PS3 has, and that gets even more aggravated when you adjust for inflation.  DS has far outpaced GBA at higher pricepoints too, same for Wii and GameCube.

Price hasn't been PS3's issue in Japan for the most part, it's was more a debilitating factor in the west.

Uhh, okay, so the 150k people who bought the PS3 Slim in first week, didnt because of the pricecut (and a bit because of the redesign) but because of the late port of ToV? yeah, sure..

They bought it because they coudn't fit the fat model in their appartment but can fit the slim one !

+ the fat one was too heavy for half of them to carry!

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

But the degree to which it is one is greater than the degree to which it is the other. The fact that the price cut didn't have much impact is visible from the weeks following the price cut, while there was still no other software. The idea that the price cut is a big factor would rely on the notion that it became a larger factor many weeks after it happened, very strange for a price cut. It created a boost in sales to being up YoY, but the margin by which it was up YoY was very slim before the holiday, and it was tapering. The margin by which it was up has been much larger post holiday, when the extra factors of Wii Fit Plus and especially NSMBW are present.
