Forums - Sony - Sony Really Loves to Lose Money (my experience with sony TV)

k guys so last week our 46 inch bravia tv had a problem with the analougue cable.the picture was bad.Keep in mind that the tv was 4 months out of warantty. So I called up sony about the issue and I also complained that my tv was out of waranty ,they said they would consider it and let me know. They sent 2 people to our house to fix it.(which was a pleasent surprise since we had a problem with our Samsung LCD and we had to take it to a specific shop given to us by samsung ourselves)

Then after fixing the TV (a circuit needed to be replaced)they said that sony has authorized the fix under warranty eventhough the TV is 4 months out of waranty.the bill was $478 plus tax .It was at that moment that i told myself that dam sony really loves to loose money lol,,,but this investment on their part was not without its benefit as my parents said that they will be buying only sony tvs in future.

Just wanted to share this story with you guys :)

that's really nice of them :)

My Bravia is entering its 5th year now

That's not them loosing money, that is them making sure that people continue buying Sony TVs. In the long run, it is better for them that you make your next TV a Sony TV, and then get some other people to buy new Sony TVs

do the other tv manufactures do it though??our samsung was under waranty when we had problem with it.So i really don't know. The process was much easier with sonyc compared to samsung since they sent people to our home instead of us taking it to a centre. Sony was not greedy. That was the surprising part for me.

Nice for you. Well, in my case, I have a 32 inch Bravia. The warranty was for one year. It broke one month after the warranty was over and guess what? They charged me for it and it was damn expensive. Not bad though as I got a new warranty for the service for 6 months (for paying them to fix it). Then the tv breaks while I have only a week left on my second warranty. Now I get really pissed. It's almost like there is a timer for it to break just after the warranty is over and they just barely missed it the second time.

The second time I did and they fixed it (it was under service warranty after all). I was pissed about the timing. First time it broke in 1 year and a month when the warranty was for one year. Second time for one week before the extended service warranty expired.

In my case, my next tv being a sony tv or not will depend on when it breaks for a third time.

EDIT: I also have a 46 inch bravia. That one is around a year old and is working fine.

Good to hear, I happen to own a 46" Bravia myself. But how long are your warranties abroad? Here its usually five years for TV's and most other electronics when you count the rights from the Purchase Law and Consumer Law.

I have a friend in the USA who is doing service for Sony computers (i.e laptops & co) at the customer's home. I don't know if this is a Sony specific thing for all products that can be repaired on the spot, but if it is, nice thing.

Edit: Mainly, they diagnose the hardware via phone, get hold of the replacement component, and my friend goes and installs them. The process seldom goes wrong. Now I wander if they could/would use this system for PS3 owners? Wouldn't that be nice.

I don't know, but now I know Sony have good customer support for their TVs. I have a Sony TV and I am very happy with it, and this story will help convince me that my next TV should be Sony
