Forums - Gaming - The worst sequel to a game?

Halo 2, 3, and ODST. But they weren't that bad, It's just hard to live up to one of the greatest games of all time, Halo CE.

What other sequels should we stay away from?

Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight

such a tragedy what EA has done to this franchise

What happened?

This quote from a review is pretty apt about the game -

"I’m growing tired of people drastically altering the core gameplay mechanics of a franchise because they want to try something different, yet are too afraid to introduce new IP. Calling something a sequel causes players to expect certain things based on what the series has been like before and will be disappointed when it strays too far from that. This is not Command & Conquer; it’s a console port of a spin-off that should have been called something else. Had they done so, I might have kept more of an open mind, though I doubt that alone would’ve made me think better of it.

Whether you take issue with the DRM or not, do not waste your money on this. Maybe if you really want to know how Kane’s story ends and know what you’re getting into, you could buy it during the next big sale on Steam when it will surely cost no more than $5. Even then, you should just go to YouTube to watch the cutscenes without having to drudge through all the crap in between. Not only is Tiberian Twilight an insult to C&C fans, it is one of the worst games I’ve played in a while."

That Was Left-Handed

Reviewers and PC users ripped off were so furious with Deus Ex lobotomized sequel that I avoided it.
The worst ones I fell for are Myth III and Hexen II. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time could have been good, but its control scheme is good only for the gamepad, on PC with mouse+kb it was unplayable.

I actually enjoyed Hexen II more than Hexen and Heretic, mainly because it was a good mix between both, plus the conclusion to the Serpent Rider trilogy was pretty awesome. Eidolon in the end was one of the toughest bosses i've fought in any FPS.

Plus the classes were much more differentiated on Hexen II than they were on Hexen, and the implementation of a RPG-like level up system was also pretty good. My Assasin in the end kicked so much ass XD

There's no accounting for tastes. I mainly bash Hexen II because it wasn't as innovative as the first, that at its times was groundbreaking, and its atmosphere of desolation was superbly rendered despite the crude graphics. I agree that its gameplay was good and Eidolon tough, but the level design was pretty average. Also, Hexen II left me less satisfied because I played it after Heretic II, that surprised me as it was the only Third Person Action Adventure I really liked besides Tomb Raider, and it had an even better camera control, never giving problems during fights, and the level design was exceptional. To sum it up what turned me down of Hexen II were level design and atmosphere, I didn't like them, or to put it better, I didn't find them up to the series standard.

You have a fair point of view. I do agree that Heretic II was overall the better game, it's Third Person perspective was simply amazing, not only for the amount of detail that it gave to the game, but because it worked perfectly with the gameplay.

It's just a shame that they derived a lot from the original's story, even though they mantained Corvus's story.

Alot of people will hate me for this but

Mass Effect 2, i loved the first one so much i thought it did everything just right but the second one took everything away that i loved about the first one and it just lost all the flare and excitment from the first ... Still a Good game but a terrible Sequel IMO.

Halo 3: ODST - Beat the game in six hours .... 6 FU@#IN HOURS, and i collected all of the recordings .... i thought this game was going to be awsome, to see the halo universe from a different perspective, But omg this wasnt even a sequal this was $20 DLC at BEST and they try and justify the purchase with a hugely Flawed Horde mode multiplayer system, and a Multiplayer disc of Halo 3 with all of the Map packs that i had Already Bought ..... This was the Worst Sequel I have ever Played.

ODST is not a sequel....

Besides that you should have informed yourself better what the game offers and what not before purchasing it.

Final Fantasy 8? It was bad.

ermmm what the hell

FF8 is a classic

___________

Well Tomb raider the first one on PS2..........thats the ONLY bad sequel I've played to  a game. EVER

EDIT:

Well if I count the difference in rating I'd give to FFX & FFXII

I'd say FFXII too (as the next FF after FFX)

But its still an excellent game, but lower in quality by around 0.65 points

EDIT 2:

GRAND THEFT AUTO IV!

Most disappointing game ever!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

From my experience I'd say Call of Duty: World at War.

Deus Ex 2

I blame the PS2 for ruining it, or was it the Xbox?
