This gen has had the most epic battle I've ever witnessed between companies. I mean Sony and MS are at each others throats, trying to one-up one another at every turn. Sony and MS both are now taking aim at Nintendo, and are planning to directly compete with them on the new market Nintendo created. This gen has been crazy fierce, and it will only keep getting fiercer, I expect this E3 to reveal a lot of awesome games, across all platforms.

Units sold yes, it is. Even though the market got bigger.

Financially, it's a mess. Too expensive hardware. Too expensive games.
