If true, I think this pretty much puts Sony in last for the rest of this gen.

No it doesn't. The 360 arcade is already $100 cheaper and is getting its ass kicked weekly. What makes you think an extra $50 cheaper will make the difference?

You aren't considering the many who want the console with a hard drive. A $50 price cut will be a definite deal breaker. Also, the update that allows USB stick support will make the Arcade models more desireable.

Okay as for the USB thing, I have no idea what that means and I'd consider myself fairly informed about gaming related things; so I doubt the average gamer (casual gamer or whatever) will know either so that won't make a difference.

And yeah I'm not saying a $50 drop won't help but I don't think it's gonna skyrocket 360 above PS3. $200 (current price) is very affordable already so I don't think too many people who want an Xbox 360 were waiting for it to drop lower than $200. Its not like the PS3 which went from an expensive $400 to a fairly affordable $300 when they did the slim.

So yeah it'll help and the 360 will probably go back to dominating in North America (its pretty close right now) but it won't stop the PS3 IMO.

As in you don't know what USB is? Or you don't know what a USB flash drive is? My friends who wouldn't know what you're talking about if you mention video card or motherboard do know what a USB flash drive is. And it's not hard to understand "Plug in a USB flash drive into an Xbox 360 for up to 16gb of storage space per flash drive". What don't you understand about that?

OT: There are too many people here assuming that a possible slim model cannot incorporate the current xbox HDs. For one, and let's assume the xbox is standing upright, they could always design it so the HD plugs in on the right side, parallel with the DVD disc tray as opposed to it's current perpendicular set-up. Actually, when I first heard the idea of the 360 slim, that's what I imagined they would do.

When the 360 goes below $199 its a signal that the generation is coming to an end.

LOL at this comment. Like Microsoft have controlled this gen LOL I think if the 360 goes below $199 you meant to say its the end of the 360 competing?

It doesnt matter who controls it, you think the generation would end if the Wii HD came out? No the HD consoles would still be going.

I was saying in general, since 360 is the cheapest console (along with the Wii) When a console goes below half of its launch price that means the generation is COMING (not at a end) to an end.

Maybe its just the 360 'coming' to an end since they never talked about a 10 year plan lol jk

No, but they did say they would be on market for longer than the PS3... and they did say they want the 360 on market for 5 more years after Natal launches...

Why would they drop the price?

  1. They're the cheapest console already, they don't need to be cheaper-er.
  2. They're gearing up for a huge launch (Natal), there's no need to drop the price.

I really don't see this happening.

Agreed.

For MS to succeed with the Natal solution they will need to offer it to EVERY new 360 customer bundled in.  The problem is that consumers are less likely to buy 360's for more cost even with Natal bundled in and they need to keep ahead of the pressures of the Sony Wand and BR.  In addition MS needs additional momentum to keep or add sales momentum for another one or two years, still allow them to offer periodic incentive price drops, and still make profit.  The possiblity of the slim might solve all of this if it's being released at the same time as Natal.  The 360 and Natal could be bundled together keeping the consoles at the same or slightly lower than the current retail value.  The new redesign might also should also help reduce support and warranty costs saving them even more.

Well thats good news cause i want this gen to last longer so at least now i know itll be 10yrs minimum (between Sony and MS at least).  Do you know if Nintendo spoke of anything like this?  I'm afraid the moment one company makes a next gen then they'll all quickly try to to stay in competition and jump onto the next gen as well.  I'd like to hang onto this gen for a lot longer if possible.

10 years on market, not a 10 year generation.  I still expect the next gen to start in 2012 or 2013 at the latest.  This just means they will still support the 360 and PS3 like the PS2 is still supported.

This is good. If it's really that cheap, then I just might buy it. I have an arcade 360,with the 60gb hard drive.

I think that all these rumors are true but I think the price is wrong. I think that MS will make the price $129.
