PS3 has played all their trump cards almost (slim, price reduction) and only have one left

as people who want these generic games already have a PS3

So basically the gap will not really change and we can see that as it is basically still about 6 million

The motion devices for both consoles will do little

most won't buy into it as the hardware did not come originally with the console

erm....I think some people are taking my post a bit too seriously...it was just an opinion....I haven't actually killed anyone or supported terrorists or something like that. I like this site but boy o boy...some gamers seem to take games a bit too seriously.

is it flamebait because it goes against what you believe? He has a right to state what he thinks will happen as long as he doesn't put down other consoles. You wouldn't be complaining if he was praising how the ps3 would catch up to the 360.

I mostly agree with you Hammertime, although I think the PS3 will keep closing the gap over the years.

I hate to be that guy that says "internet is srs bizns", but this is not gamefaqs. This is not kotaku. This is not gaf. If you're going to say something, have proof, and be reasonable. This site is a bit more serious about the industry than most. A lot of us are marketing grads, or are in business already, and we like facts and information. Sure you can make these threads, but you better expect to be lambasted if you make a thread like this.

I'm sure you don't care, and you like the interaction, but yo, it's the same for us. Otherwise we would just ignore you. You are being criticized. Learn from it.

I would like to comment on just a few points.

A) The 70% of console sales comes from sub $200 price tag applied to all previous generations. However what is very different this time around is the starting price was much higher and prices have dropped at a slower rate. Therefore it is very likely that this generation that percentage would be much lower. I also don't see the PS3 reaching a sub $200 price until late 2011 at the earliest and maybe not till 2012.

B) 360 slim rumors keep mounting big time. That means the 360 will be much cheaper to produce. They also skipped a year with no price cut. I wouldn't be surprised to see a new 360 design + price cut + Natal and big title games this fall to really give 360 a boost over this holiday.

Only thing I agree with is that the Wii has pretty much guaranteed first place.

Oh ok, I'll go make a thread that says Zelda is practically canceled, wii is a fad, and ps3 will dominate everything in 2 years. Sweet. I'm glad I can just say it's my opinion/IMO and everything is fine! Wrong. It's been said many times that IMO doesn't cut it. And yes, he is putting down a console for utterly ridiculous reasons.

I wouldn't say that, they've essentially held pricing since 2008.  A $149 Arcade slim or $199 Elite slim would move huge numbers of units, and likely erase all Sony's gains the past seven months.

For PS3 I'd also say it was mainly a combination of $299 and the slim redesign driving things.  Lots of "fat" owners upgraded, just like with GBA SP, DS Lite, PSP-2000 or PS2 slim.  Redesigns always bring a significant amount of repeat purchases from the hardcore, in addition to bringing in new consumers.  A 360 slim wouldn't be any different, and might even bring in more proportionately if it's seen as RROD proof.
