I wouldn't say that, they've essentially held pricing since 2008. A $149 Arcade slim or $199 Elite slim would move huge numbers of units, and likely erase all Sony's gains the past seven months.
For PS3 I'd also say it was mainly a combination of $299 and the slim redesign driving things. Lots of "fat" owners upgraded, just like with GBA SP, DS Lite, PSP-2000 or PS2 slim. Redesigns always bring a significant amount of repeat purchases from the hardcore, in addition to bringing in new consumers. A 360 slim wouldn't be any different, and might even bring in more proportionately if it's seen as RROD proof.
