Alright this is not meant to be a flame beacon. Its an honest question. Is Reggie full of Next Gen crap? I'll explain the reasons I ask this!

Ever since the start of Nintendo Of America their has been a lack of knowledge in NOA. I remember NOA denying that a DS was in development weeks before the DS launched. I remember NOA talking about Project Dolphin denying it was in development. I remember Reggie himself saying that the DS:Lite was not coming days before the announcement in Japan. Over the years NOA and NOE have made many false statement's either because they honestly had no clue what Nintendo's upper echalon was doing or they purposely mislead us. So with all of the past contradictions can we really trust NOA to know what's going on at Nintendo or if they do are they full of crap denying everything exists till Nintendo Japan confirms it?

Now I read an interview with the Regginator "When Mr. Miyamoto goes to Mr. Iwata and says. 'I have this great idea and I can't do it on the Wii,' that's when there will be a next generation console,"But this quote is completely false because Nintendo themselves have proven it. When ever Miyamoto has an idea that can't be carried out on the Wii a new controller is born. Miyamoto and others wanted a balance board style controller, bamb Nintendo releases the balance board. Miyamoto wanted more accurate WiiMotes and bamb MotionPlus is born, Miyamoto and Iwata hit another wall that they couldn't do on Wii and bamb theirs the vitality sensor. If it is a question of control's Nintendo will never create another console because they can always just develope a new controller.

This brings me to the question of Reggie being full of next gen crap. The Regginator recently said "I think Mr. Miyamoto himself has said that he is very interested in a high-definition experience, but to be 120 percent crystal clear, HD by itself in our view is not enough to go for a new console past the Wii." So if resolution isn't enough what constitutes the development of a next gen console. Nintendo stated 3D and HD isn't enough to warrant a new console.

So is Reggie full of crap?, their is nothing Nintendo can't make for the Wii to satisfy Miyamoto's creative spirit (Unless your talking the Matrix or holograms). Resolution has to play a role in the next console, any new controller Nintendo reveals could be done for the Wii their is nothing Nintendo can't develope for the Wii.

So in the end Resolution and perspective (3D) have to be the driving force behind a new console. In other words Reggie must be full of crap. Because he contradicts himself. He says when Miyamoto can't make something for the Wii they will build a new console. However we know that everytime Miyamoto has hit that block Nintendo has over comed it with a new controller.

So in the end the next console will have to be developed for HD or 3D gameplay whether Reggie likes to admit it or not!

After the success of the innovative Wii and DS, and the failure of its foray into graphics-are-everything known ad the Gamecube, Nintendo no longer dares to release a system that doesn't bring something genuinely and significantly new to gaming. HD and 3D don't make the cut: they may be supported if tech pemits, but they will not be the driving forces, because they just don't improve gaming in any meaningful way.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

You have shown your ignorance in the past. No offense, but you were the one to call people fanboys because they believed that NSMB Wii could sell more than 11m in its lifetime.

Reggie is more involved in Nintendo's strategy than you think and what he says shows that he understands the business. Video games are an entertainment business, not a technology one like many people, including you, seem to believe.

Youre absolutely right I did underestimate NSMB Wii's success plus I never said lifespan I said by the end of its first year in market. I can't recall calling anyone a fanboy for thinking so I just said based on sales of Galaxy and NSMB DS it was illogical to think that NSMB Wii could break 11mill in its first year.

That being said Reggie does understand the industry, however it makes no sense to say that HD/3D won't be a driving force. Keep in mind that Miyamoto announced the next Nintendo system would be HD at E3 2006. So obviously HD did play a role, I also have family in IBM who worked on the Wii and have heard that the next Nintendo system was in development before the Wii even hit shelves. Meaning HD definatly was a driving force behind its development.

We all know it takes several years to develope a new platform, they aren't waiting for Miyamoto to say "I can't do this with the Wii hardware" they are waiting for the right timing to release the next console. This is going to sound really fanboyish but their is nothing the Wii can't do, head tracking , 3D , Motion controls, vitality sensor balance board.... what can't the Wii do?

We know that HD was a driving force behind the beginning of the next gen (Iwata and Miyamoto and now Reggie have all continuesly said so since 2006). Innovation is in second place. I agree the next Nintendo console will blow us away but HD will play a larger role then Reggie is saying.

P.S- Reggie is the NOA exec that denied the DS origionally saying their was no new handheld coming. He then also denied the DS:Lite. Now I admit Nintendo has improved its ties with NOA but I think Reggie is all talk, he wants to keep trumpeting that Nintendo will revolutionize the industry again.

Well me too I got the impression there are communication problems between NOA, NOE and Nintendo of Japan. I mean, they also could develop games in NOA and NOE, but everything is let to the Japan...

They are always working on concepts and stuff for new handhelds and consoles. By the time the next Nintendo console comes out HD will be cheaper for them and make the console cheaper for us.

They want more than just HD for there next console, as the path of all my god that looks super great yay did not help them for 2 Gens. They took a hard step into Lets try something new and different and leave the super graphics to the other two. This was very good for them, so I would think this is exactly what they are going to try again. Or improve the motion control idea so much that it is new.

Reggie understands what he is doing or he would not be where he is. ( or should not be) I doubt other than maybe Iwata and Miyamoto Know exactly every little t hing that is going on. I am not even sure they do as there is soooooo much. Plus, Reggie is paid to not say what he is not suppose too.

There will always be a time where the Wii even with a new input device will no longer be able to do what someone wants.

After coming out of several generations of power improvements, it is a bit hard to believe that we might be at the end of the line when improvements in graphics and technology just don't matter anymore; but what people seem to have lost sight of is that the increases in graphical power led to improvements on gameplay. We needed the PS2 because games like Grand Theft Auto III were impossible on the PS1, we needed the PS1 for Final Fantasy VII, we needed the N64 for Mario 64, and we needed the SNES for Pilotwings. All the of big games on the HD consoles could've been done on the PS2 and XBox; they wouldn't look as good, but they weren't impossible.

We needed the Wii, or at least the Wiimote, to make games like WiiSports, and WiiMotion+ to reimagine games like Tiger Woods 10; WiiSports was impossible on previous systems, and previous Tiger Woods were not like 10, just like previous GTAs were not GTAIII. A WiiHD is pointless, because it won't allow us to expand gaming, just add a new coat of paint on what we have.

Could we just wait for E3? I'M SO EXCITED FOR E3! There will be great announcements, I promise.

HD is not a driving force.

All Nintendo said is that their next console will support it, because by then HDTVs will be in a majority of households, making the inclusion actually meaningful. That and HD is just a logical evolution.

But you are still looking at this from a technology focused point of view. It's about entertainment and that also means surprise. You say nothing can't be done on the Wii, but that's because you only think about ideas we already know about.

Once again, HD does not sell consoles. If you believe that, you spend too much time on forums. Software sells hardware. So the next Nintendo console better has games that can't be done on the Wii, because otherwise, why would people buy a new console?

Lets be clear I don't believe HD sells consoles and never have, it would be insaine to do so given Nintendo's profit track records. Then again GameCube had by far the best software last generation and it lost to PS2 which had a dismal first party line-up. The Wii sold because of the Wiimote and Nintendo's great Ad campain. A Nintendo fan myself I can't say software sold the Wii. The Revolution sold the Wii. Disagree?

The Nintendo 64 and GameCube both had some of the greatest games made to date. Infact look on any best of 2000-2010 games list and you will see multiple GameCube titles. But superior software did not lead to superior hardware sales. Now I can also refute the people who would then argue superior hardware sells. Nintendo 64 was far superior to the PSOne its not even funny, the far superior hardware is similiar to the Wii versus PS3 this gen. Yet the far superior N64 lost out to PSOne. Then theirs GameCube which was far superior to PS2 yet PS2 kicked its butt (Marketshare not profit wise).

What do I think makes or breaks a console? Marketing, software alone does not sell hardware, hardware alone does not sell itself. And neither even together have a chance in hell of selling without marketing. Look into history a bit the NES revolutionalized the industry their were arcade titles, cereals, movies and everything promoting the heck out of it. Then comes the PlayStation giving people a cheaper alternative to cartridges it had a ton of marketing go into making it a success, it appeared in many movies and got numerous heavy weight exclusives like Final Fantasy. Then the PS2 continued that, it was marketed as a home entertainment system thanks to DVD. Sony marketed the heck out of it and with enough third party marketing and press the PS2 won despite being hugely inferior.

Why will the Wii and DS go down in history? The Regginator! He is an amazing marketing machine, naming the console origionally Revolution and marketing the crap out of it. Pushing its hardware and software to the brink was highly successful. It was all those teaser video's and stuff that sold the Wii.

As for the console better have games that can't be done on Wii. Your right it better maybe an HD head tracking launch title, yes your right Nintendo thinks outside the box and can probubly come up with something origional I can't even fathom. However to date Nintendo has been able to create almost every control scheme they can think of on the Wii. Natal could be done on Wii, Move can already be played on Wii. I and I bet you too can not think of anything that Nintendo couldn't do on the Wii?

HD can't be done on Wii now can it? Head tracking at the moment can't be done on the Wii with existing unmotified hardware. Nintendo could also be planning a Matrix style control system. Maybe Holograms. All I can say is as far as a controller goes, their is nothing Nintendo can't make on the Wii. Infact the WiiMote could have been made on the GameCube or N64 for that matter infact Nintendo started dev on it back during the NES. So that means the Wii could have been done on any of Nintendo's past systems. its not a matter of what Miyamoto can and can not do with the hardware. Its marketing, when does it make sense for Nintendo to launch a new platform, which new control schimatic will wow the audience the most and push the most hardware.

I always argue marketing is how Nintendo has managed to do so well. Marketing is why Nintendo releases new consoles, marketing is why Nintendo's consoles constantly innovate and marketing determines when and where software and hardware will be released. Disagree with me? Why else would Nintendo hire a hot shot marketing exec to head the North American division?

If I recall correctly Reggie was also questioned at least about the Lite before Japan announced its release during which he said their was no Lite coming. Also I recall Reggie stating that the Wii was going to have seven first party launch titles and it did not.

Reggie had an interview shortly after the NOE announcement of No Lite and he confirmed it was not in development. I remember because I was so suprised the next week or two when Nintendo Japan announced the Lites existance. The release of the DS initially your right that might have just been NOE. But it proves my point anyways. Nintendo orders its staff to reveal info at certain times or the Nintendo staff genuinely has no clue what is going on. I think Reggie is promoting the idea of another Wii to see from a marketing perspective when should Nintendo release the next piece of hardware.

In my opinion everything Reggie says is said for a marketing purpose, to hype up Nintendo's products and promote growth in the industry. Whether he is full of crap half the time or not doesn't matter to him because it does the trick. Remember when Reggie said no less then 7 first party titles were going to be availible launch day. It was a lie but Reggie said so to hype up and target the hardcore demographic.

Reggie is a smart very smart man. But I think he's full of crap half the time and the idea that Nintendo is waiting for Miyamoto to hit the limits of the Wii is simply illogical. Since we all know the next console has been in development since 2005 and yes all I know is that its HD but other then that what exactly can;t be done on Wii? As I said before the Wiimote could have been launched on GameCube, so could Natal so could Move on PS2.

Fact is their isn't anything any of us could fathom that couldn't be done on the Wii's hardware other then better graphics and higher resolutions!

1) All company's deny things before the big release, they put a lot of effort into organising the announcement, and certainly arent going to ruin the surprise because a journalists asks them

2) You're misinterpreting the HD comments. Nintendo has stated that the next home console will run in HD resolutions, all that quote says is that they will also look at ways in which they can innovate, improve motion control and social gaming aspects of the console, simply a 'Wii HD' isnt enough
