There is almost no chance of the Playstation 3, surpassing the Wii. Sure, the Playstation 3, occasionally, marginally sells better than the Xbox 360, but by the time it may have the chance to catch up, the generation could be over. I mean, there is a chance that the Playstation 3 could surpass the Xbox 360, but those chances are kind of small. Super Mario Galaxy is going to drive Wii sales through the roof. I mean, it's Mario! The original Super Mario Bros. sold 40 million copies on a console that sold around 60 million units. Super Mario Galaxy, according to Game Rankings, is the greatest video game of all time. That, plus the fact that it's Mario, may help give the Wii a further boost, until it reaches 160 million.
The game itself could sell 80 million units, if it becomes bundled with the console, in the future... Sure, Xbox 360 has a lot of good games, but so far, most of them are shooters, and the only game that could really give the console a boost in sales was Halo 3, and that boost is slowly dieing off now. What does Sony have? Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. Although it's an awesome game, it will practically do nothing in terms of boosting the console sales of the Playstation 3. What about Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto, and Metal Gear Solid? All three of these franchises have not been exclusive to Sony. Grand Theft Auto has been on Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and even Sega! Metal Gear Solid has been on Nintendo and Sony. Final Fantasy has been on Nintendo, Sony, and Bandai. However, these franchises have mostly stuck with Sony. Why did Final Fantasy, and Metal Gear Solid, go multi-platform to Sony?
Because Nintendo was going down hill. Now that Nintendo has become greater than ever, there is a small possibility that these franchises will stick to Nintendo, more than Sony, and Microsoft. Why should these franchises stay with Sony? They have never been exlusive to Sony before. They may have only been with Sony the most, because Sony was bombing the competition before, but things have changed now. If Sony loses these franchises, there is no way it can revive itself. Xbox 360 doesn't seem to have a bright future ahead of itself, except for Banjo Kazooie 3, which probably wont boost sales of the system, but will hopefully be a golden title. Nintendo hasn't reached the limit yet. Super Smash Bros. Brawl... Mario Kart Wii... And many other games await... If the Wii could sell so many units, before Galaxy, Brawl, and Kart, think how big it will become after all these games are released. Well, only time will tell, but personally, I really think that Nintendo is unstopable now.
