Sega is more of a jinx to Sony. Seriously if you want the PS3 to do well having the creator of the Dreamcast sound off on the consoles behalf is a horrific omen. You would want to distance yourself from the very name as much as humanly possible. After all you do not want people even thinking about that failed console when they are talking to you about your under performing console. They might draw parallels. These two consoles have so much in common as is. Except initially the Dreamcast was more successful.

That said I would just like a real rational explanation as to exactly how Sony can accomplish this feet. Sometimes I feel like I am six years old again asking a Sunday school teacher exactly how Jesus walked on water. Nope I really did not buy it then. Just like I do not believe in inexplicable come from behind victories. Someone has to do something really wrong, or someone has to do something really right. In this case it seems that Sony needs a lot of both to happen.

The two competitors have so many advantages while Sony has so many flaws. Microsoft has the substantially better library covering all genres, and has the dominant exclusives in many of them. Nintendo has the cheaper more casual friendly console. Sony is neither casual friendly nor is it hardcore enough to compete on even ground with the 360. Further more it is the most expensive console, and now it looks like it will not even support backwards compatibility beyond the first ten million units produced.

Worse yet the logic always seems to pivot around a few exclusive titles that supposedly we all want to spend four hundred dollars to play. Usually ignoring the fact that the other consoles are going to have an equal number of high quality games. That gave me a idea

What do you mean, "Dreamcast 2 confirmed?" Where's the proof?

Here's a scenario that deflates this half-baked theory from another end:

If by Heaven's Chance the PS3 actually mounts a comeback and starts picking up in the next couple of years, Microsoft would unveil its 'XCube/XHexahedron 3:16' for the 8th generation putting the PS3 once again in a N64-like position fighting a lost race in the previous gen as that gen's winner moves on to the next generation.

And still the PS3 would have to contend with the Wii which it most likely will not be able to beat or even touch into the audience Wii does.

It's just the most supreme of wishful thinking & no one wants to take people away from their fantasies but reality will come-a-knockin' sooner or later.

Generations are decided early not late. The pecking order is basically finished now. It's been a whole year. No more excuses. XBox 360's about to hit its 2nd birthday & PS3 & Wii have already hit their 1st. The generation is DECIDED. PS3 & XBox 360 fight over the same demographics with similar strategies. Only difference is Microsoft has more money to fight with and they got a headstart on the scrappin'. Only Bruce Almighty or Evan or whoever plays in those films can change this outcome. And as we all know these are fictional characters so the point is moot.

Get used to it:

#1 Wii

#2 XBox 360

#3 PlayStation 3

Those are the overall rankings for the whole world in the 7th generation. Gold Silver Bronze.

If people have a hard time remembering, just use these mnemonic devices:

•The i's in Wii look like a number 1

•In the numbers 360, 6 divided by 3 equals 2

•The PS3 has a number built in to the name: 3

Simple. Time to hang it up guys. It's over for this generation. Just enjoy the games you got and forget about the pecking order because it's fixed. Etched in stone for Moses' Ten Commandments.

Quack!

I'll bet my avatar and a 1 month ban that the PS3 by March 08 will be 3 Million units away in WW sales of the Wii. konnichiwa, Your gonna regret this!!!!!!

Around the Network

There is almost no chance of the Playstation 3, surpassing the Wii. Sure, the Playstation 3, occasionally, marginally sells better than the Xbox 360, but by the time it may have the chance to catch up, the generation could be over. I mean, there is a chance that the Playstation 3 could surpass the Xbox 360, but those chances are kind of small. Super Mario Galaxy is going to drive Wii sales through the roof. I mean, it's Mario! The original Super Mario Bros. sold 40 million copies on a console that sold around 60 million units. Super Mario Galaxy, according to Game Rankings, is the greatest video game of all time. That, plus the fact that it's Mario, may help give the Wii a further boost, until it reaches 160 million.

The game itself could sell 80 million units, if it becomes bundled with the console, in the future... Sure, Xbox 360 has a lot of good games, but so far, most of them are shooters, and the only game that could really give the console a boost in sales was Halo 3, and that boost is slowly dieing off now. What does Sony have? Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. Although it's an awesome game, it will practically do nothing in terms of boosting the console sales of the Playstation 3. What about Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto, and Metal Gear Solid? All three of these franchises have not been exclusive to Sony. Grand Theft Auto has been on Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and even Sega! Metal Gear Solid has been on Nintendo and Sony. Final Fantasy has been on Nintendo, Sony, and Bandai. However, these franchises have mostly stuck with Sony. Why did Final Fantasy, and Metal Gear Solid, go multi-platform to Sony?

Because Nintendo was going down hill. Now that Nintendo has become greater than ever, there is a small possibility that these franchises will stick to Nintendo, more than Sony, and Microsoft. Why should these franchises stay with Sony? They have never been exlusive to Sony before. They may have only been with Sony the most, because Sony was bombing the competition before, but things have changed now. If Sony loses these franchises, there is no way it can revive itself. Xbox 360 doesn't seem to have a bright future ahead of itself, except for Banjo Kazooie 3, which probably wont boost sales of the system, but will hopefully be a golden title. Nintendo hasn't reached the limit yet. Super Smash Bros. Brawl... Mario Kart Wii... And many other games await... If the Wii could sell so many units, before Galaxy, Brawl, and Kart, think how big it will become after all these games are released. Well, only time will tell, but personally, I really think that Nintendo is unstopable now.

Here's another prediction: After an unprecidented string of flops.. Sega will go out of business in two years.

Nah, they're too good at milking Tomb Raider at the moment.

that would be eidos, but they too will go out of business if they keep making shitty games such as kane and lynch, hitman, and tomb raider rehashes

So it is.  Wonder how I could confuse Eidos and Sega.

Oh, that article. Its written by some artist/designer at some Sega studio. Its just one persons opinion, and not from someone involved at the business or sales end of the company.

I have to agree with him here. Generally a gaming generation is decided within a year of the last consoles launch. We're there... Could this be an exception, sure it could. Many of the rules have been thrown out for this run but there's a few still being followed. 1. no console leader has ever stayed on top more then 2 generations. They get 1 win, 1 break away success and then failure (Nintendo, Atari can we say Jaguar and 5200?) There's no specific orders for said placing but there is some sembelance of a rule. A company get's all, up it's own a$$, then boom failure. Is the PS3 a certain 3rd place, of course not, is it a certain 1st place doubtful. I'm seeing the PS3 coming in a close 2nd or 3rd with the 360.
