You should put the stats the pokemon are on level 100(for biggest accuracy) and without EVs(again, for the biggest accuracy) but you can also EV train them and still be able to calculate the IVs

PD: I have a garchomp with 31 IV on Speed and attack and tha nature is jolly =)

I like the Pokemon games, and I don't even know what any of this means.

You are not alone ...

You both are soooo casual

at first i thought you mean 4 as in the Elite 4

what the hell are IVs?

I myself would like to have the whole concept of IV's explained to me, how they differ from EV's, all that. I've never been a fan of breeding at all

Nature can piss off, i say. Damn crapshoot of determining whether you have optimum pokemon or not.

IV, EV, and Nature can take a long walk off a short pier.  I don't want to breed pokemon, I want to battle them.

IV's or Indiviual Values are like the gens of every pokemon and is determined randomly and from its parents

IVs are pretty old. You played Red, Blue, or Yellow, right?

Yeah, but i definitely didn't play those games legitimately. Help from my friends with Game Sharks, and handy abuse of the Missingno. glitch. Same with Silver, but i used a Pelican Brain Boy to hack the hell out of things

Pearl is really the first pokemon i've played legitimately straight through.

@ Words of Wisdom

So how exactly can i determine EV's and IV's? It seems like i would need to know at least one of those to solve the equation for the other (yay algebra).

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Okay, think of them as being like genetic potential. Each stat has a number, 0-15, that determines how high a stat can be at its maximum with the largest amount of EV invested.

So i presume the I stands for "Initial" and the e stands for "Experience?" And that E is determined by how much exp you put into the level-up process? Or does E stand for "Earned?"

Those are some of the most complex formulas for an RPG I've seen. Who would have ever had the time to figure that out?

Kimi wa ne tashika ni ano toki watashi no soba ni ita

Itsudatte itsudatte itsudatte

Sugu yoko de waratteita

Nakushitemo torimodosu kimi wo

I will never leave you

I don't care about IV's, or EV's, and I rarely care about natures, and sometimes, I do need the right ability for a certain pokemon.

In game stuff FTW! Competitive battling FTL! :D XD

I'm not really sure. But EVs raise your stats by a certain amount, up to the roof determined by IVs.
