Forums - Nintendo - Smash Brother Brawl Unable To Read Disk

So I finally wrapped up a few games I had been meaning to complete and decidedd I wanted to play some brawl, as I haven't played it in, well, years.

I pop in the disk and get a dreaded "Unable to read disk."

I remember hearing about problems with the game when it first came out but I never had a problem myself until now.

Has anyone ever found a solution to this OTHER than sending your wii in to Nintendo?

I am a Gauntlet Adventurer.

I strive to improve my living conditions by hoarding gold, food, and sometimes keys and potions. I love adventure, fighting, and particularly winning - especially when there's a prize at stake. I occasionally get lost inside buildings and can't find the exit. I need food badly. What Video Game Character Are You?

Mine started to do this as well. I did not know that there was a big problem with it though. It's the only disk that won't read in the Wii.

Buy a lens cleaning kit, there's one from Datel I think, that worked for a friend of mine.

I had to send my Wii in twice, after the Brawl launch, and last month. Damn dirty lens. I never tried the lens cleaning kit things, I've heard from people that they don't work at all. D: But I dunno.

Just FYI, this only happens with brawl (and WaW) because they are both dual-layer Wii DVD's requring a concentrated and strong laser which dirt on the lens prevents.

This happened to me last year, I told Nintendo what happened and they fixed my Wii for free even though my warranty was expired. I got my Wii back in 6 days and an 1 year warranty.

Brawl and Metroid Prime Trilogy are on dual layer discs. A dirty lens prevents the Wii from being able to read those dual layer discs. Other than sending your Wii to Nintendo, you could try one of those lens cleaning kits. There is even an official Nintendo one if you are worried about trying that.

You need to clean your Wii, try purchasing the official cleaning kit. That's my guess.

This is a well-known error. Your best bet is to contact Nintendo.. a lot of people have had this problem with Brawl.

that happened to me. My warranty was also expired. I went to the Nintendo support site, filled out a receipt, and sent my Wii to Nintendo. They fixed it up and sent it back for free. Best support ever.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.
