Forums - Nintendo - Monster Hunter Tri - Set for success in the US?

So with the latest Preorder charts out, we've seen that Monster Hunter Tri actually rose 7000 copies (which is quite a lot when you're 7 weeks from release) and now lies at 28000 preorders. That's pretty impressive, because with the time it has left before release I wouldn't be surprised to see it rise a lot more than that. Given this, if we assume that VGChartz is right on the money (as they usually are), I don't think a opening week of above 100k is out of the question. A certain other game that sold just over 100k first week in the Americas is Punch-Out, and that's up to 800k in that region now, and still selling at a healthy pace.

I'll be honest, I've had my doubts about Monster Hunter outside of Japan, but it looks like Nintendo are really making it work. Impressive. Can't wait to see how high it goes first week.

Yeah, i don't think anyone can say Nintendo isn't pushing it.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

that scottish ad guy is going to make it sell millions :D

I LOVE ICELAND!

Unfortunately, it may not be as successful as CAPCOM intends it to be, but the core fans of the Wii are surely going to pick it up. Only leaves us to know whether grandpa and grandma are buying it or not. I want Monster Hunter to sell well, but I know it'll be really difficult to.

I don't think many core wii owners will get this.

I can see it doing something between the NMH and Zelda crowd going for the game.

With free online announced it probably means Nintendo or/and Capcom see that Americans do not, will not or can not see the value of the game. Which shows a lack of confidence in the software.

Makes this game not as huge, what I'm saying is, if the online was free in Japan also it would be fine.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Official Huge Monster Hunter Thread:

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

...perhaps set for moderate success? The gameplay itself, my impression from the demo, is somewhat sophisticated for the average gamer.

It's unlike anything that's been on the Wii; a genuinely, difficult, fulfilling game with loads of replay value. That's why I've had it preordered for a while now.

If Vgchartz are right abt the preorders, which they are usually off on some Wii games. Dont get me wrong i'm really glad for the game, but i'd rather we wait a while. Hopefully this will do well!

Not to mention Wii games usually don't get a lot of pre-orders. I think this'll do very well in Americas, especially if there was a black Wii + MH3 bundle, but it will fail miserable in Europe. Oh well, at least on European will be lining up for it.

The demo's definitely helping

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
