at least double that score ! |
Actually, now this is fun:
My review: 3.5 (35%)
Metacritic average: 54%
So since I'm nearly 20 points off the average, does that automatically mean I'm some anti-Lost fanboy and that review should automatically be labeled as fanboy garbage?
binary solo said: It's reviews like this that makes taking the median review score a better review indicator than the mean review score for Metacritic. For most games the median and mean review scores are the same or within .05/10 so it doesn't really make much difference. But for some games the difference between mean and median can be as much as 0.4/10, and in an industry where the current review structure puts a great deal of emphasis on the difference between an 8.6 game vs a 9.0 game (I just checked and the median score for PS3 Bayonetta is 90 whereas the metacritic score is 86) a 0.4 skewing by a few outlandishly low scores can be a big deal for some games. I bet the median review score for HR will be 9/10 whereas the mean review score will be 8.7 - 8.8. Not a big deal perhaps but having that lovely looking 9 associated with a game is a rather nice to see for those who really like the game. |
Metacritic doesn't actually use the mean to come up with the 'Metacritic score'. They actually use a weighted average. So scores from more respected critics have a bigger impact on the score than less respected critics. However, this formula is a secret, so it is impossible to know which sites have more weight and which ones have less.

sjhillsa said: The thing I have with Heavy Rain is, it is a QTE(Quick Time Event) game with an intricate story and atmosphere...but we saw earlier games like Dragon's Lair (QTE game) and Shenmue which had a mixture of QTE and free roaming environments. What makes Heavy Rain so special????? Yes, I have played the demo a number of times. Also, won't most people want to save the girl at the sleezy place? Otherwise it would be going away from your own personality just to see an alternative action/event? Even though I found it interesting, the story and atmosphere, setting and graphics, but what is the gameplay, if it is not just a series of QTE????? How is it a benchmark game when Dragon's Lair and Shenmue had done a similiar style of gameplay before this? is it really any better than Fahrenheit for example? is this the way forward for gaming? Motion controller, maybe; but QTE I don't know.. |
I can tell after playing that one demo that it's better than Fahrenheit.
Not that being better than Fahrenheit is much of an achievement, IMO.

Don't take it so serious. As if I cared what score you gave it.
On the other hand the game should be reviewed objectively, so as a Lost fan, the personal opinion should actually score higher than the average.

I actually took account being a Lost fan. If I didn't love Lost to death, I probably would have given the game closer to a 1 or 2. :-p
If you don't absolutely love Lost there's no reason what-so-ever to play that game.
Getting farther into the game, things DO start to actually cause the story to "branch" out, making for some pretty drastic changes in the story... It's just that all the "every little decision matters" stuff is nonsense hype, as with most games.
This game is a solid 8 for me, high 80s if we're doing that scale.

I can agree with the last part, although a friend of mine bought it for 10€ and he also likes it, even though he never watched the show.
It's getting a bit off-topic....
