So would gamestop take the price hit themselves or raise their used game prices accordingly?

being able to resell something isn't what defines capitalism, not to mention it in no way reveals an inherent right to use the second hand product beyond the establish rights of the creator. forcing second hand buyers to reregister the game to be able to use it is in fact indicative of a capitalistic society, not the other way around.
an din no way does that punish anyone. as long as people know that prior to buyingthe game, they can make their own decision on whether they want to buy it or not. see, it's a choice, and when you choose to do something, just because you'd prefer something else doesn't mean you are being punished. |
I don't think we disagree.
I buy used all the time, mainly because I only buy a game retail if I really want it (ie. God of War 3, FFXIII, Heavy Rain). The other games, I may want, but not so much I will pay $60 for it brand new. I can wait a few months for it to drop in price and then I will pick it up.
However, if a game is lowered in retail price I will buy it then, say $20-30-40. I just don't like spending $60 when I could do other stuff with the money.
Call me what you will, but I see myself as a smart consumer/buyer.
Take it with a grain of salt.
There is definitely more to list that I want, but that's my main focus there.
They should be treated as well as pirates.

Even if buying used did nothing but damage the industry the people who do it shouldn't be punished.
Reselling and buying of used property is a FUNDAMENTAL consumer right.
You may as well say people who only use a half of packet of sugar in each cup of coffee should be punished.

They already overprice the used games so they can just take the price hit. They would still be a billion dollar industry.
Heres how I see it.
Gamestop shouldnt be capitalizing on titles that are selling fresh for a high price.
But if the game is out of print or old, then they can sell it cheap. It's better to get rid of it or it will end up in a land fill somewhere.
I didn't read the OP's blog, but I think the Project 10-dollar or providing some sort of DLC for new games is a great idea.
If you buy used you cannot expect to get the same exact product as new. It's nice that you have been all these years but publishers are finally getting wise and trying to make you want to buy new.
It's not-so-much you getting punished but more just you getting what you pay for.
capitalist pigs. If i payed for something, i can do whatever i want with it, even selling it.
