Forums - Gaming Discussion - DVD is increasingly showing a strain in providing HD content.

I love how the first couple of comments are basically saying "screw the ps3 and 360 then" definately don't deserve to be called gamers.

I guess I can see how you arrived at that viewpoint, but to me "Abandoning HD Content" =/= "screw the ps3 and 360". Plenty of games/series have the sales to justify pushing the hardware to its limits. Just saying the focus on other games shouldn't be to develop a 1080p or even 720p title if the market isn't there to support the costs.

I certainly didn't mean resources should be shifted to the Wii or a handheld.

EDIT: Also, I agree with most posts that an additional disc would usually solve the issue.

Speaking of DVDs (not the ones used for the video game medium), has anyone noticed that stores have been selling recent releases of movies and whatnot on DVDs for cheap prices? My mom bought a crap-load of them, including the 6th Harry Potter movie for me as a Valentine's present. I told her I didn't want it because it wasn't Widescreen (it was Full Screen) and it wasn't on Blu-Ray. I told her that I'm waiting to buy all of the Harry Potter films (on a compilation collection; they have those at Sam's Club, AND on Blu-Ray) on Blu-Ray. Plus, I've noticed how shitty some of my regular DVDs are when I play them on my laptop's Blu-Ray player.

Thats horrible..

Your mother loves you! Don't diss her gifts... now she is sad! You made your mother sad!!! *shakes fist*

be nice to her...

Not sure what the "major constraints" as it only seems to be a constraint if you are a PS3 owner justifying the move to blu ray.

If properly prepared and optimised the current DVD format is sufficient for most games. Some games appear to laden themselves with high quality CGI which is supposed to convince me I need a Blu Ray medium.

All the time that the titles that interest me are available on my console and if and game comes along on multiple discs and the developer has perpared the disc accordingly I can live with the "major constraints" after all I am managing fine and dandy to live with these constraints on both my PC and my 360.

Kinect as seen by PS3 owners ...if you can pick at it   ...post it ... Did I mention the 360 was black and Shinny? Keeping Sigs obscure since 2007, Passed by the Sig police 5July10.

If all this forget HD consoles was true, then why are so many developers saying forget the Wii, we are putting that money to develop on PS3. There MUST be a reason. Sony does not have any problems with space, or having enough HD content on Disc, with out using 3-4 Discs. Like Developers have said so many times, 360 has seen its best days, I own both 360 and PS3, The problem really is not with hardware, its this whole equality crap, make the very best game you can for each console, if all does not fit, make the rest for download on XBL, that will solve the problem, that way PS3 fans are not suffering by not getting the very best game developers want us to have. Its that easy.I hear and know a lot about 360 and PS3 that I can't say because for 1 , i could get banned because people can't handle the truth, and I don't want the developers in my family to possibly get in any type of trouble, they coulld lose there job. Just make the best game per console, thats all I want.

Then Capcom's lamenting of  DVD capacity for it's game lost planet 2 and FFXIII getting reduced textures on 360 are first of few examples of this outcome due to improper planning or optimising. Hence are they to be blamed as you've stated?

One of the first comments, the poster only has a DS (according to their tag), what could've we expected lol

@coolbeans

because microsoft charges a VERY hefty liscensing fee for an extra disc according to Camarack.

With so many big publishers losing money or making ridiculously small profits on 10 million + selling games maybe it's time they abandoned HD content for now!

DING DING DING DING DING! Sure the HD content is amazing, but the market for them isn't expanding nearly as much as the cost to develop the games is. I doubt we'd really want a price hike on software to balance the scale.

MW2 made $2B.....first week. Wtf are you guys talking about? $2B revenue - $50M R&D and Development = $1.95B profit. Ridiculously small?

Those numbers are suggestive as to whether the market appeal for HD content is actually there or not. Just the small push through ads and campaigns can turn every heads in. Activision has contributed.
