Forums - Microsoft Discussion - 360 will maintain its lead over the PS3 in 2010.

I think you are jumping the gun, we don't know anything about the PS3 second half releases, you could be right but you could be wrong as there's too many unknowns.

it will drop to 1 or 2 million, but 360 lead will continue to decrease.
exclusives will only grab current owners.
check ME2. no real bump on console sales.
same will happend to Halo, Alan Wake, etc etc.

But the same wont happen to GOW3, FFXIII or GT5 since they are the first time they will appear on PS3.
So, this ones will be system sellers. The ones from 360 not.

FFXIII isn't exclusive. It is multiplat, with exclusive Xbox360 bundle for the west.

And ME2 made the 360 outsell the PS3 by 60k in January.

And Natal will move more consoles than GoW3 and GT5 combined.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

360 lead over PS3 will fall to 4.5 million this year, but rise again to 6 million by the end of the year.

PS3 will not be any closer to the 360 by the end of the year. It will be like Ground hog day. De ja vu'.

PS3 is not zooming pass the 360 or crushing it in weekly sales on a regular basis. The boost from the PS3 Slim launch was just a rally due to consumers waiting for a cheaper price point of $299.

Three more big games left for the PS3: Final Fantasy XIII, God of War 3 and Gran Turismo 5. 360 has more games up its sleeve for second half of 2010: Halo: Reach, Fable 3, Alan Wake and possibly Gears of War 3. Price cuts in 2010, it has been two years since the last 360 price cuts. Natal launch in second half 2010.

Sony may have to delay Gran Turismo 5 launch until the second half of 2010 and reveal the second half games very soon. PS3 not expected to cut prices on SKUs but the 120GB could be replaced with 250GB and have the $299 price tag. Sounds familiar, Microsoft dropped the Pro 60GB and replaced it with the Elite with the $299 price tag in 2009.

It will be interesting to see how the sales battle between the 360 and PS3 unfolds in the second half of 2010.  Second half of 2009 turned around in a blink of an eye all due to the PS3 Slim launch. 360 is in the battle to win and it will not lay down and die.

For a moment there I though I was on Google when someone looked up "insecurity."

YO this is so classic, this generation has so been both extremely terrible, but really really fun,

is this not the exact same guy with the multiple countdown till ps3 beats 360 threads

lol this site did to ps3 fanboys what MW2 does to it's fans, the game knows your aim was off and you didn't really get that kill, but the game gave you the hit detection anyway, ohhhhhh PATCHED!! now you have to aim again and everyone sad face lol.

It does follow the same trend with the generation. 2006 Xbox, 2007 PS3, 2008 Xbox, 2009 PS3, 2010 Xbox? At least in terms of performance in the 2nd part of the year.

Tease.

I wouldnt be surprised if the 360 maintains its lead in america but i would also be surprised if the PS3 doesnt gain ground on the worldwide scale. However i do believe that the 360 will still have a lead of a few million by the end of the year.

Long Live SHIO!

I think with recent VGChartz numbers this is becoming pretty apparent.

I'm assuming Japanese big sales are over (wasn't it January their holiday time?) and sales will be pretty slow from here to the holidays. NEVER underestimate MS's ability to cut the price even further, and let's not forget the deadly combination of Halo and Natal.

I was pretty sure Sony would take a lead in early 2011 but now I'm not so sure.

Regardless Sony still had a lot of pent up demand (and from what I've seen the PS3 is in short supply, at least in the US) so they will still make a strong push.

In the US the 360 will win pending the impact of their Spring line up versus Sony's Spring line up and how strong Natal is.

Others Sony should maintain a slight lead.

Japan is obviously a lost cause.

Overall MS will still take second place from Sony.

It's just that simple.

The gap increases even when the PS3 outsells the 360, so you're right.

Exactly THIS.

For the record, I can't completely buy the OP's numbers because at the current sales rate (PS3 outsold the 360 WW in January only 40k).  At that rate, the gap would only be down to just under 6 million by the end of Aug (before likely price adjustments).  How could it get down to 4.5 million, especially when VGC keeps making adjustments that widen the gap?

As stated before by a few wise souls here, people overreacted to the PS3 sales bump in 2009 just like they did to the 360 sales bump in 2008 and the PS3's other sales bump in 2007.

So how about this, I'm going to give everyone here something to feel celebratory about:  the Xbox 360 will be the best selling 2nd place console in history and the Playstation 3 will be the best selling 3rd place console in history.  Glass half full, folks.  Glass half full.

maybe so .... because uk ... we'll see ... in 2010 I saw that many European countries are in a very serious economic situation: greece, spain, portugal, for example (the south in general).anyway, It does not necessarily affect the game industry in these countries or even the country of northern Europe will be sufficient for the 360 sells more than PS3 in this area. For the moment Japan is sufficient for the PS3 to sell better. MS have to sell more than sony by a big marge in usa to count the sells of ps3 in the rest of the world.
