Forums - Nintendo - Muramasa: The Demon Blade: The Most Underrated RPG This Gen?

I don't know you guys knew, but Muramasa: The Demon Blade is a jrpg for the Wii. I've checked the user reviews from sites like Gamefaqs, Gamespot and Amazon and all of the people are saying that its an awesome game (some even saying that its one of the best action rpg they have ever played). On top of that, we have IGN giving it a 8.9, 1up gave it a A-, RPGamer gave it a 4/5, Play Magazine gave it a 10/10, RPGFan gave it a 86/100, GamePro gave it a 4.5/5 and Game Zone gave it a 9/10. Even after all of this I don't see anybody talk about it here on VGChartz or on other forums. So, could this be a hidden jrpg gem?

If everyone is giving it high ratings then it cannot be considered all that "underrated."

It was featured in a vgchartz "top of 2009" article or something so people here should know about the game :P
Great game, simply great. Although the ideas (two characters story, blade stuff, ...) aren't totally new they feel pretty fresh imo and just everything, art, sound, style, make this game just wow

it was an RPG? hmmmm....didn't know that, I will be picking this up in the future

i didn't like it as much as everyone else seems to.

Positives:
can switch difficulty mode easily
some really great boss fights
cool weapon and accessory selection, gives it a strategic edge

Packed with Content which is very very important to me. It's got 108 wepaons to collect, 3 ending and lots of enemy lairs to do

Negatives:

WAYYYYYYYYYYYY too much repition. I spent much of the game using the same techniques on the same enemies in the same locations. I found it incredibly frustrating, especially in the 'fight 100 of the same enemy' areas. This is especially true for kisuke.
Good story told poorly. Its probably because i don't know much about japaneese mythology but I had a hard following what was happening sometimes. Again this was much worse in kisuke's story than momohime's.

I think this game could have been excellent with a bigger budget. It would have allowed for a greater variety of enemies. I got so tired of fighting ninjas, frogs and tengus. I would have also liked it if the NPCs were more interesting and more involved. I've only found 1 sidequest type thing in the entire game

Not underrated, just low-profile.

Not really a JRPG, either. Feels more like an action game to me.

Finally, someone w/ some sense!

This is *not* a JRPG: it is, at best, a shallow ARPG, but those elements take a backseat to the straight-ahead, chop 'em drop 'em gameplay. (And for the record: this was one of the two best games I played last year, so I do adore the game.)

Not an RPG, but a very fun button mashing action game.

Yes, it is a jrpg (an action rpg to be exact)

I meant it was underrated by gamers. I don't see anybody talking about it. It kinda like Disgaea 3, an awesome jrpg (or srpg) that is not mentioned to much in forums and is overshadowed by games like Valkyria Chroincles, Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia and Demon's Soul.

Yeah I wouldn't call it a RPG either.

Very nice art and the combat is fun for the most part. Solid 8.0 IMO.

it's more of an action game with rpg elements rather than a full fledged RPG, and a masterful 2D action game at that.

i loved every moment of the game! it was EXACTLY my cup of tea, enjoyed it from start to finish, fabulous story + excellent gameplay = me very happy n_n

it's what Zero (from megamanX) would be if they gave him star treatment and tried to make a masterpeice 2D action game for him (sorry MMZ)
