No it doesn't. Miyamotot said they are working on a new hardware. Nintendo probably does this all the time. No reason to think anything is happening.

Then why anounce it if it's something that goes on all the time? The always R&D going on but Nintendo never says anything about it until something is about to happen hence the interest his comment has generated.

Nintendo has not announced anything. This is not an announcement of hardware, just they are working on one. There is no concequnce to announcing you are working on something if it is planned for the future. Companies are always making new products unless they go under. There is a negative conequence to announcing something early. The press wont care as much because they expected one, you lose your competitive edge as it can encourage competition to try and get out before you (or soon after) and it can encourage partners to start blabbing information. Nintendo would never allow Miyamoto to announce or even mention something prematurally. Remember the DS Lite? There were talks of Nintendo release a new model. Nintendo denied it till the cows came home; that was until they actually unveiled the DS Lite. If Miyamoto is talking about a new platform, nothing is coming out, or at least not soon.

Also, I'd like to point this out

On to our challenges on the decline of our software shipment in the “Other Regions” including the European market, we acknowledge it as a big issue because, even though the decrease in actual sales in the markets was smaller than the decrease in our shipments (as I said during today’s presentation), the actual sales declined about 20%. Some say it is due to piracy activities made possible by devices such as Magic-Coms(R4), but I don’t believe it’s the only reason. When Nintendo DS was getting more and more popular and sales figure performed accordingly, some of our product proposals became a social phenomena. Just like Brain Training in Japan, Nintendogs or Brain Training did the same thing in the European market. Actually Brain Training performed fine there last year – it sold over a million copies in Europe but the previous year had sold more than three million copies. That means Brain Training had less visibility as a social phenomenon last year. Nintendogs is in a similar situation. If we could propose what will replace them and maintain a high visibility in society, then the Nintendo DS momentum can be activated and more software titles can be sold. What this means is that we were not able to do that. Thus I believe our highest priority is to propose and offer Nintendo DS titles which can be another social phenomena.

If Nintendo is going to make a new handheld (because well all know Wii HD isn't going to happen), would they really be trying to offer more DS titles. Also, let's not forget the new Pikmin game. Miyamoto mentioned it in July of 08. It is now Febuary 2010. There is still no Pikmin in sight.

I want to watch GDC

When is it?

I LOVE ICELAND!

It's March 9-13.

You don't really "watch" it though. It's not like E3.

Nintendo could both release a new Wii or a new DS, trying to appeal the "hardcore" market while continuing to publish new casual games and making a lot of money on old DS and Wii.
I think it will be more probably a new DS. It's too soon for a new Wii since 2010 looks like it may be greatest year for it yet (galaxy, zelda, other m,red steel 2,last story)

Im pretty sure they streamed last years speach by Iwata. So you do watch it.

Just have Google during march and you will find links through Kotaku or something.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

There may be liveblogs and on an off chance some streaming, but there are no walkthroughs or live demos or anything like that.
