Yeah, Nintendo really fucked up Japan this year :/

It was doing so good in the beggining of the year thanks to NSMB Wii and then they just let momentum go again. They could have easily surpassed 2009 sales in Japan if it wasn't so bad now, I'm not so sure they still can.

Releasing what? Metroid? Mario? Zelda?? Kirby??? Nothing in Japan could help Nintendo in a considerable way...not software at least, that's a lost battle, Nintendo has released about everything they could for Wii to help sales; it just can't keep selling without a whole market (3d party's one).

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

I'm not sure, there's a 65% chance of wii outselling PS3 this week, Kirby isn't a fast seller, and it will probably only bump wii to 17k

They just need Dragon Quest X out now.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Yeah im not sure the wii will get a bump this week. I cant see people rushing to buy kirby, but ti will probably do well in the holidays. I think that's what nintendo is counting on, another stellar holiday season in japan, they obviously have alot of Holiday sellers, but we'll wait and see

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Wii is still up YOY by about 90k. It should be able to remain up until December. Depending on the impact of Kirby and the Mario bundle it'll probably lose somewhere around 10k-30k in October and probably another 10k-30k in November. Then it's all down to DK in December. I don't think it'll beat last December but could it get close enough to remain up YOY? I'd give it 20/80 odds.

Uf they had released a decent old-school Metorid, that is what Japan wants, like the original or even Super Metorid, it migh have sold system. If they didn't had to release their Galaxy Expansion Fun pack that didn't help shit, they might have concentrating in making a game that actually sell systems.

Above: still the best game of the year.

You have two ways of suceed in Japan: being tremendously traditional (see what happened to Metroid when it changed with the Prime series) or release just big IPs. They have the bigger IPs: Pokemon, Mario, Kirby, Zelda...with third parties support the sucess would be immediate. Unfortunately there's not this support, and unfortunately (for the, so called, "hardcores") they've to try new ways of gaming in order to find new markets...Metroid is an example of this change, like Zelda will be. The real change is not Wii Sports or Wii Fit, they're just new successful IPs...the real change is in the evolution of main games: look at Mario Galaxy, at Metroid Other M, at the new Zelda; this kind of experiments usually can't meet high demand, especially in Japan. Should they stick with 2d Marios, 2d Metroid, Ocarina-style Zelda, a Mario Kart, some Mario Parties and Starfox/F Zero/Animal Crossing/Donkey Kong? Probably for Japan market they should, but it really can't work worldwide. They have to look at every market and contemporary increase their size, so that they'll be able to produce more games and not run into this tipe of situations again. For now, releasing some JRPGs and making bundles is the only way to push hardware.

A console Pokemon, and I mean a real Pokemon not a spin-off, would solve all of Wii's problems.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

I'll say since Wii party probably saw a rise this week(according to Comgnet and the preview), then the wii and PS3 will have a virtual tie this week(within 1000k of each other). Although i still dont really expect a wii boost until mario collection and the red wii come out

Edit: btw Testres, any idea when Nintendo might announce the DK release date? Dont they usually announce it at the end of each quarter?
