In the gaming world, there has been a recent trend of a certain console manufacturers (who would remain namelss) fanboys that would claim that Halo 3's success is due to the fact that it's the greatest thing since Square ditched Nintendo's cartridge based platform to make games on C.D for Sony back in '95'.and constantly compare its sales without any incite to that of PS3 exclusive titles.   "With out any incite you say"

Halo 3 IS a very successful game, but what other 'AAA' exclusive titles on the Xbox 360 platform does it have to contend with. Gears i hear you scream, and for all you people who screamed Gears ... you're correct (and also stop shouting in the back while reading this) but apart from that what else is there, fable 2 and left 4 dead both did well,sales wise but they hardly set the gaming world alight... who's really talking about them now. the only thing that sparked any major interest in left 4 dead was the rumor of it coming to the PS3, apart from that the games pretty much yesterdays news as the position on the Xbox most played charts always shows.

if you had been counting, thats only two quality 'AAA' exclusives for the Xbox. Viva Pinata, Banjo kazooee: Nuts and Bolts, Too Human, Perfect Dark, Ninety-Nine Nights are all flops, or mediocre titles at best, and this is not fanboism, this is fact. i can't imagine most Xbox 360 owners are hankering for Kameo 2:deli of fate.

Now for the incite part:

So lets consider the amount of 'AAA' exclusive titles for the PS3 (for the sake of fanboys out there, we'll only list the ones that has sold over a million) we have MGS4, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, LBP, Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm, Killzone 2.

Now using incite if there are only 2 'AAA' exclusive titles on the Xbox , you can expect them to have a higher sales rate because of their fewer number, where compared to the PS3 and remember we are only talking about the million and above sellers, not all of the exclusive titles has a broader range of titles to choose from, so you can expect sales to be spread across different titles. Look at it this way, Killzone 2 has been released, and inFamous, Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, God of War 3, White Knight Chronicles, and M.A.G are all coming exclusively to the PS3, This Year.

Now compare that (the quantity not the quality) to the 2 games that Microsoft is going to announce for the Xbox, this year at E3

Not a chance, sorry to tell you but halo is just that good. 

People were saying the same thing about halo on the origional xbox, but then xbox starting getting the same third party games as ps2 day and date except japanese games of course, and then halo 2 came out and outsold halo 1, the franchise is proven.

............and 360 got the most third party support this generation, plus halo 3 came out 2 years after xbox 360 launched, no way man, just no.

Halo 3 sells because it's that good no other reason.

The 360 has plenty of good exclusives if you would actually own one you would know that already.

I think Halo 3 performed well because Halo 1 and Halo 2 were popular games, this combined with lots of overhyping by the press and an unbelievable marketing campaign.

Surprisingly though this game did not seem to spike XBox 360 hardware sales as much as expected around its launch (there is no PC version currently available or even announced so far), the more expensive PS3 even outsold the 360 the months after its release. So it seems a lot of early 360 adopters were anticipating especially this game, shooters already performed relatively well (compared to great games such as Kameo).

I think the game did help spike XBox Live Gold sales, as the game is rather short and repetitive, IMO of pretty limited value without being able to play online. Certainly a great money maker for Microsoft.

Halo 3 is the 360's equivalent to Mario. Thats the reason it sells. You're blowing things way out of proportion. To deny the existence of competitive AAA titles on the 360 is a joke.

It just comes down to the differant buisness models of Sony and Microsoft.

Sony

-Get the best talent in the world, and let them make what they are passionate about.
-Focus more on the varity of content than trying to push one thing above the other, if something exceeds that is up to word of mouth.

Microsoft

-Create an IP, and forces in house teams to build games around it.
-Throw the best most expensive marketing behind the IP that is possible.

God of War could sell bunches, the same with Killzone, Uncharted, or Metal Gear Solid 4 (Sony's GeoW). Sony just chooses to let games sell to people that find them, and it is ok because it is a model that has kept them profitable and on top for almost their whole stint in the games industry. To expect a game that has a one million dollar ad champain to sell anywhere close to a game with a 20M dollar one is just nonsense. Sadley, most internet forms are full of people that don't use logic, and are living in their own universe.
